I predict that there will be at least one thread in the Lounge saying that the Apple Store has gone down, possibly in L337 HAXX0RZ OMG writing.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I'm still new to MWSFs, so I'm not sure about one thing: is there any chance that Microsoft will demo the new version of Office at the show?

Any ramblings are entirely my own, and do not represent those of my employers, coworkers, friends, or species

I'd say it's doubtful. And for the record, it's just "MWs," and then the next letter or two depends on the city it's in, which changes each time.

So if the iPhone isn't announced, can we finally put that product to bed?

No. I don't expect it to be announced at Macworld '07. However I do expect it to be announced eventually (with a different name).

I'm pretty sure it's alway in San Francisco these days. Up until a few years ago there was MWSF in January then MWNY in June(?).

so basically the iTV and/or iPhone (both under different names of course) will make or break this MW?

I'm hoping the AAPL stock goes down, so i can buy it before MW June, which is probably when the goodstuff will be released if its not released on tuesday.

There's no MacWorld in June. It used to be MacWorld NY in July, then Apple pulled out when the IDG... ING... I..something or other, moved it to Boston. Then that east coast show kinda died. These days new products are introed at MacWorld, and at special events through out the year that are randomly announced. Sometimes in Paris. There have lately been announcements around early September if I remember correctly.

That said, Apple may chose to intro the iPhone another day because it isn't actually a Mac. Thing is though if they're doing iTV I imagine they'll do the iPhone at the same time.

And no MacWorld isn't made or broken by one product. It's always broken by high expectations that can never be reached. Though I'll be happy with leopard info and new iWork and iLife apps. That said, I'm anticipating being to have a new Apple phone be my first ever mobile phone.

In Macworld this year Steve will mainly concentrate on the features of Leopard that have been kept top secret so far:

Leopard to be renamed ‘Thundercat’.

Cheetara (previously known as Safari) will include a feature that automatically replaces all displayed instances of the word ‘Microsoft’ with ‘Mutants’, ‘Bill Gates’ with ‘Mumm-Ra’ and ‘Vista’ with ‘Slythe’.

The startup sound will be replaced with a distinctive ‘Ho!’ sound.

Certain core technologies will also be rebranded, such as Spotlight becoming ‘Sight beyond Sight’ (powered by a database known as ‘The Eye of Thundera’).

The Finder will remain unchanged, but go by the name ‘Snarf’.

Makes sense to launch it in a country with a modern telecommunication system.
Most phone companies test phones in Asia and Europe first.

LOL! That would be awesome! The Finder Snarf-- Haha, makes sense!!!

As far as MacWorld, I'm really not very excited by the prospect of an Apple cell phone or even the "iTV", or the sub-par iWork suite. On the other hand, I would be excited about a new Mac, or even a significant update to one of the existing lines, or an Apple PDA (particularly one based on e-Ink technology. I was annoyed to see the first Sony e-Book reader with absolutely no Mac support).

But I'm really not expecting much. I hope Apple wows us, but we'll see. At least I'm not expecting much, so it would be difficult for MacWorld to go below my already low expectations.

Wonderful to see all the ideas. Two things irritate me, though. First, none of the suggestions offered come close to the wow factor of Apple's "The First 30 Years Were Just The Beginning" teaser line. Second, there are some existing technologies not yet used by Apple that might have a good fit with some rumoured talks going on. Chip-level GPS, available in some cell phones, plus talks with Google, have me hankering for a location-saavy card (for MacBooks; later built-in) and built-in to the to-be-announced iPods (and the iPhone, if it exists).

I imagine iWeb using location as part of its blogging features, etc., iChat having an integrated "near-by" feature, etc.

I can't imagine Steve Jobs is happy with purely an evolutionary MW, rolling out minor upgrades to hardware and software. It'll be underwhelming if we're not impressed by most things and not blown away by the "one more thing".

Any MacNNers going to the show who want to sit and chat a spell please drop me a PM. I'll be there most days, if not all.

Huh? A GPS for MacBooks? You can already plug in USB GPSes that work fine. They would be even more useful if there was some decent navigation software instead of just mapping software from GPSy or MacGPSPro.

Will there be a live stream or are we out of luck as we have been for the last couple of Stevenotes? Do we have to resort to the usual IRC chats?

No live stream, but stream afterward is generally the rule. All the news sites will probably offer live text feeds, though.

Maybe because they aren't giving us what we want. Here are my needs:

1. At least two processors. One dual core chip is fine.

2. A really good graphics card, or an upgradable graphics slot

3. Room for one hard drive.

Right now, there are only two computers in their lineup that get me these things; either a $2000+ 24" iMac with the 7600GT, or the Mac Pro, which is also over $2000 and doesn't even include the price of the display.

That is ****ing NUTS. The mac pro is complete overkill for me, and the 24" iMac would suit me pretty well, but it's still rather expensive, and so far nobody ahs been able to upgrade the graphics on them yet.

Increased sales and market share don't mean that they could be even higher with a decent product line up that caters to everybody.

Funny. I don't recall saying what I and other 'prosumer' mac users are the reason for that increase, nor is what we want, what a bunch of mac 'switchers' want.
