Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately MS keeps the MSN system closed (the other clients you can connect with do so by reverse engineering the official client). so you can't use iChat with MSN.

No, it isn't. iChat uses the ICQ/AIM network whereas MSN uses the MSN/Yahoo chatting network. You will have to use one of the MSN clients for the Mac. The most popular one is Adium (which is roughly the equivalent of Trillian on PCs), but you can use MS' official client or one of the others.

Oh.. Thanks anyways. It's a shame that iChat doesn't support MSN... Right now I'm using Microsoft Messenger for Mac, although before I was using Adium.

You can use MSN on iChat through Jabber, but it's not very usable. Just use Adium for all your needs. It's great.

Good luck,

Yeah I've gotten MSN to work in iChat via Jabber. So yes it is very possible.

But like onlyone said, it's HORRIBLY implemented.

Another vote for Adium.

Use Skype, it's the best cross-platform voice/video chat app out there.

I've been using aMSN, but I'll give Skype a shot, especially if it does voice.

Skype here too, ditch MS. There is also a hack for the mac to essentially double the resolution of your video, as long as you and the other person on the other end have a fast internet connection. It is really good all around.

Another vote for Adium- a really great app. File transfers with MSN are still slow, however.

Jabber works great for me in iChat with everything except file transfer.

What Jabber server are you using? The one I had been using dropped their MSN transport with no intention of bringing it back. I haven't had much luck finding another server with a working MSN transport.

Personally I also use Adium to log on to most services (on the relatively rare times I do any IM) and then fire up Skype for any video and audio chats.

Personally I'd love to get iChat to reliably work with MSN... but thus far its not.

For voice/video chat, its Skype all the way. For daily text chatting, its Adium all the way. If Adium ever becomes capable for Skype, I'd gladly pay/donate them money.

The day after I posted this tread I went back to Adium. I figured out that Adium can be synched with Address Book, just what I was looking for!
