Sure. He'll make sure sequels of all his movies kill his characters off

I thought one of the take-aways from the (director's cut) original is that Deckard would have long past his expiration date in 2049.

That's a heckuva send off if this idea is true : Harrison Ford killing off his character in every movie he ever made. According to IMDB he has 74 films as an actor, so he has a lot of work ahead.

I'd like to see the following sequels where his character humorously bites the big one:

Regarding Henry
American Graffiti
Air Force One
The Fugitive

Saw the trailer at the theatre today. Ehhhh...

I'll probably see it, but it didn't feel right. I dunno... too empty?

I figured this would be a flaming dumpster fire of crap, but the early buzz on this movie is very very positive.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I can get a crew together to see it Friday, but it's not on any screens that far out, and it's made... $13MM.

Ouch, ow, owie, owie.

It’s fantastic. Not perfect - neither is the original - but I can hardly imagine a better sequel.

I haven't heard anything bad about it, but holy Christ is it tanking. This is horrible for the franchise. It's now radioactive.

Good. That’ll keep it from being a franchise.

The original was a slow burner that made its money over thirty years. No bad sequels, no TV spinoffs, no toy merchandise bullshit.
Fine if that’s what this one does, too.

It's not like the fan base exploding in the intervening decades. This is Hollywood being its normal thick self.

I look forward to seeing it, though, so I thank them for their cluelessness.

Spot on. I suspect it may be a bit of a slow burner anyway, but there just wasn’t anyone asking for a Blade Runner sequel. Blame it on Hollywood’s inability to spend real money on anything that doesn’t have an existing name and/or fan base. So I suspect it doesn’t tag directly on Villeneuve’s career - he’s already doing Dune next, the guy is just killing it with excellent movies lately so why the hell not?

Honestly, I’ve had some time to think about it and I’m not sure I could have asked for a better sequel to Blade Runner. There’s probably some recency bias but it’s definitely up there on my personal list of favourite sequels.

It's been a longtime but ERTL is synonymous with heavy vehicles in my mind. Tractors, dump trucks, etc.

Franchise was too narrow a term. The genre is now radioactive.

It was pretty good, I enjoyed it, but it isn't typical summer blockbuster fare.

The trailer was cut to make it look more manic than it is.

Thankfully, it's doing "well enough" to be extended out another week and I've got tickets for Friday.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't nearly as brilliant as everyone else seems to think.

There were a bunch of clever ideas which I felt were underdeveloped, and ended up just padding the thing out.

I just saw it again and much preferred it this time.

Knowing what was happening beforehand helped. I also want to say seeing it on a television instead of in a theater helped as well.
