I started using a new browser on my iPhone and iPad (iCab Mobile), and suddenly, I'm getting pop-unders for two websites all the time:
wwvv.livejasmin .com - a f$&king sex site
wwv.fulltiltpoker .com - online poker website
What gives ?
I never had these issues with Mobile Safari.

Not really.
There is a difference between "poker website" (which could be about poker) and "online poker website".

I wanted to try out iCab Mobile. What really irks me about Mobile Safari is the constant refresh of websites once you have more than two sites open concurrently. It's annoying as hell.
I solved the pop-under problem with the custom filters in iCab. Still annoying that this would be somehow triggered by 'NN.

I don't have a smartphone / pad to test with. Can anyone else verify this, so we can kick it upstairs?

I sent word upstairs a couple days ago. It would be reassuring if others experienced it. So we could be sure it isn't something specific to your phone.
You didn't 'check' the system preference to show you savings opportunities?

Nah, you should buy more pre-paid calling cards with pictures of Viagra on them.

That's really odd.
I haven't had it happen today either.
Ha, f*ck. Just happened again. But this time, it didn't open a new tab in iCab. I could see the URL being called up, and then it disappeared. Very strange.

This happened when I clicked the "New Posts" link:
However, this time, the pop-up was blocked by iCab, so in the end, it just went back to load MacNN.
WTF ?

I'm getting the same pop-unders (live jasmin & full tilt poker) as new tabs when I login with OmniWeb 5.11 running 10.6.8. Doesn't happen at any other site, or in any other browser I've tried - Safari, Camino, Opera, Sea Monkey, iCab, and Firefox. iCab wouldn't display the js login window, but Firefox's NoScript extension found scripts for these sites:
googlesyndication.com fastclick.net bkrtx.com fmpub.net cdnlayer.com easypicturehost.com
So I am stumped. Malware scans from ClamXav, MacScan 2, and Sophos all come up clean. The only consolation is that I'm not the only one.
It didn't load the page because I have already added livejasmin to my hosts file.

My guess would be the cdnlayer.com scripts, a search shows some dodgy stuff coming from that site.

I sent word upstairs again on Aug 12. Even mentioned the adult site turtle was surfing ... er, that the popup accidentally sent him to.

Advertising sold on MacNN and on the forum pages is not sold by "MacNN's Owners" directly to "Bob's Adult Emporium" or any other advertised entity. MacNN sells space through advertising aggregators, who themselves sell space (usually categorized by the focus of the pages with space being sold) to other entities that eventually sell space to advertising companies. There are usually at least 4 or 5 different links between "Bob the advertising client" who has wares to sell and "Fred the web page owner" who has space to sell.
It comes down to two things: how quickly the aggregator(s) is/are at responding to the web page owner's complaints, and how easy it is to determine which aggregator to contact in the first place. Our "upstairs" is indeed interested in advertising income, which is linked to hits on those ads, and if an inappropriate ad is taking up space on his pages, preventing appropriate ads from getting hits, that's expensive to him. It's also not good for the reputation of MacNN to have such inappropriate ads show up-whether through randomness or miscategorization, it makes it harder to sell ad space to legitimate, appropriate advertisers.
