Hi all,
Does anyone use the 24inch Dell here? Any comparison to the 23inch Apple Display? What about image/colour quality interms graphic design/video production work for the Dell2005fw?

cheers

I have been using the 2005FPW for a week now. I ordered it becuase of the attractive price and the great reviews I read about here on this thread and others...
I must say I was a little disappointed The text on this display is not really sharp and it's way too bright. I read some of you complained that you can't adjust the brightness or the contrast... why not? If you push the "-" button you get the option to control the contrast and the brightness... It really helps for not being "blinded by the light" but you also want to adjust the color settings to get a good results at least on mine.
When I took it out of the box I found out that the supplied DVI cable will not work with my video card. ok ok, I have a Quicksilver G4 867mhz, and you might say I am lucky that it even works on the VGA port, but still I had more expectations... I was thinking for a long time to replace my G4 with a new shiny G5, was just waiting for the right time. Well, guess what? the time has come I'm going to the Apple store, here in Portland, to get the new dual 2 ghz (that's all I can afford...) Anyway, I hope this DVI cable will work with the new G5 and I hope I don't need any adapters... I guess that DVI connections will give me better video quality? really don't know the difference between the DVI and VGA. I also hope that the video card on the new G5 with it's increased memory will get me better video. Anyone had the same issues? Can someone share on what port they have their dell 2005FPW connected and how it works on the G5? Also, any benefits of getting a better video card then the one that the new 2ghz G5 has for the dell monitor?
Any reply will be appreciated

The DVI will definetly give you better image quality on the screen. With VGA (which is analog), the digital signal is converted from digital to analog, so you have a degradation of image quality. DVI is digital, meaning that there is no conversion and the quality is higher than VGA.

A lot of people can't see a difference between using VGA and DVI on an LCD, but it could help with the text issues you are having on the 2005FPW.

I agree. When I switched from VGA to DVI (using a Radeon 9600XT) I saw a very noticable difference.

From bensbargains.com:
# 20% off E153FP, 1505FP 15" LCDs code VC0SCS?R8J8S1M
# 25% off E173FP 17", E193FP 19", 1905FP 19" LCDs code N09ZB3F$9RRN08

If I'm going to buy the Dell 2005FPW, I'm going to wait a little longer. I want to pay somewhere around $400 for it. That's if I don't buy the 20" ACD first

Now I'm looking to buy more ram, so now I'm on a new mission to find the best deal
(sorry applestorefolks, i can't pay you $600 for 2 GB of ram... really I can't)

±88 degrees viewing angles, VGA / DVI-D / S-video / Composite / 4 x USB 2.0

I ordered a 2005FPW for 397 shipped from dell yesterday. For those that can't do the math, that's half the price of the Apple 20".

Here's a AnandTech review of the 2005FPW VS the 20" Apple.

Hey everyone. I just ordered the Dell 2005FPW. The price is $524.30 on sale. I added a $13 pack of CD-RW disks to take it over $750 original price for the order. Then I used the following coupons:

79VT3767HP833W

S0BDZ6HBTFDPSL

After all was said and done I got the monitor for $438. While it isn't an Apple monitor it will serve my purpose for some time.

I didn't have a choice but to add an item to the purchase. It took the total original price of the purchase over $750. That way I could use the $90 off coupon.

Sorry I might have missed this in an earlier post but I was wondering if it is possible to use the pivot/rotate function for the 2005FPW on any version of OS X?

...but only IF your machine's graphics card supports it. At this point, AFAIK, only ATI chipsets are supported; no rotation support for nvidia cards.

Your ATI Radeon 9000 should work just fine... I have an ATI Radeon 8500 and was worried about it not being able to drive the 2005FPW because it wasn't listed as a supported card, but it wors perfectly!

which 12-inch Powerbook do you have? My guess is that it will work... especially if it is one of the more recent revs...
good luck,
dave
It does produce a beautiful picture via the DVI connection...

Dell has no quality - they are the Yugo of the PC world. The onlyh good thing is their LCD's use Samsung or LG panels so they are of decent quality. But the electronics are probably the cheapest Dell could find. Hence all the issues with them.

As for covering the logo - do what I do with our few Dell servers at work - some tape and a Sharpie with "POS" written on it. At least it's an honest description of the machine.

Best Buy and Circuit City are having good sales on 17 and 19 inch LCD's this week and all would be better than anything from Dell.
