I am not a great fan of textures though - in fact I think the only effect more overused is the selective colour in a b/w image trick. Urgh. Way to destroy a perfectly good photograph, 99% of the time.

Which is odd because the facial tracking feature works on dogs, too, and claimed to know where her face was at the time.

I really like this shot. The composition is excellent, the way the road flows into the bottom right of the shot, and the way sky/clouds draw the eye to the top left is well done. I might have warmed white balance a little, even if the shot truly represents the white balance of the shot, I still like a warm white balance on outdoor shoots. And it would also be nice to see if cropping a little off the top and moving the horizon towards the center of the image (rule breakage, I know). Did you use a polarizing filter?

A shot I took last week. It truly represents the sky that evening. I did no PS work other than convert from RAW to jpg.

Great shot. Especially the arrow indicating the flow and emphasizing the structure of the street. Railroader's idea to warm up the shot is good, but that wholly depends on the look and the emotion you want to go for.

That's the way I like it. I would crop a little of the top (just neutral black with nothing there to see), not every photo must be 3:2 or 4:3. I would probably crop as much from the top to match the black on the bottom.

Wow, Railroader, that's a wonderful shot. It implies strong weather, and lots of it, and yet that hole in the clouds at the center provides a great contrast. The colors are great, too.

I love the way the arrow kind of helps direct the lines, and seems to be guiding the storm system along its path. It's a small thing, but I'm glad you included it in the composition.

I did a little shooting today with a 2005 Subaru WRX STi. We went to Miami and I think it went okay, though we got distracted a little bit when we went for a bite to eat at LA SANDWICHERIE on the beach.

I'll post some after I have a chance to look them over.

AND I now realize I didn't mention him pretty much running me over yesterday. For serious, I was taking a photo of a Cadillac on South Beach, and I was kneeling in front of the Subaru in an alley. A car came up behind the Subaru and my friend must have lost his brain because he started pulling up(about 2 feet) and kinda folded me in half . I dropped my sunglasses, ALMOST dropped my camera(hand grip-strap!), and hurt somethin' in my hip area. It's feeling a little better today and I'm sure it'll be better-better tomorrow. But still, my idiot non-paying for awesome photos friend almost ran me over.

That rocks! Talk about time lapse photography... That's like a 75 year lapse.

You're way off on the bugs. Completely harmless. You bump into them and the die If any part of your body casually touches the bugs, then the bugs drop dead, not you*. No stingers or bitting parts. Only last a day or two anyway. Basically like a dark mayfly without the long tails.

Yes, it is. I shoot pretty much all of my street photography square format.

Back before my wife and I decided to become poor have a child, I had been looking into medium format SLRs. I can't seem to find anything about them now. Are you using an SLR of some kind, or the more traditional Hassleblad-style camera?

No, it's shot with a Ricoh GR Digital II. It a specialist little camera, with a fixed lens and features such as b/w composing, square format shooting and snap focus, where the camera is set to a specific focus point before shooting. This saves time, especially in street photography where seconds count. With the focus set to about 8 ft and the aperture closed down you have pretty much continuous focus from 3 ft to infinity.

Here's a shot from a shoot I did a couple days ago. It's not what I would normally show a traditional customer, but I try to shoot candids of kids during shoots and find that the more artistic clients prefer them to traditional posed shots.

My wife has chosen this one as her desktop picture. I am a little uneasy about it, it seems a little bland, but she loves the color and the details.

Are those from the same image? Different crops I mean. A happy medium of the two would look best in my opinion. In the top image the ice chunk is too low in the frame and is distracting. If it were higher in the frame it would look better. I like the wide aspect ratio over the more square one. Landscape shots rarely look good in a square/portrait frame.

You're right. The bigger ice chunk looked strange when cropped that far. I think the 'happy medium' is best.

I have some glacier shots that I'm tempted to post, but the photos just don't portray the actual subject. It's hard when there is nothing in the frame to give you some sense of scale, and since I don't have a SLR, the colors don't seem to come out quite right. Maybe I'll post some just to see if there are some suggestions on how to make them better. It sucks when you have a fabulous subject, but can't seem to capture it.

We sell Canon cameras where I work, but I just can't squeeze a SLR into my budget right now.
