In the past couple of weeks I have noticed that .flv and .mp4 videos I download from YouTube and other sites have become choppy when being played. It's like the videos hang for second every now and then. This happens when I use QuickTimePlayer 10.0 and RealPlayer 12.0. It does not happen when I use VLC 1.1.11 or QuickLook
Anyone know why suddenly the payback gets choppy with QT and RP? I'm using OSX 10.6.8.
Thanks,

Got the latest edition of Perian? (perian.org)
VLC has its own codecs and is obviously more up to date than everything else.

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Updated Perian in the last couple of days but that has not changed the situation. This choppiness only started in the past couple of weeks.

Do you actually need Perian for the codecs contained in the flv/mp4 files?

Perian will allow flv in Quicktime. Not really required for mp4 but it might override the Apple codec for all I know.
