i was wondering if anyone can help me find the program people use to put there dock on the sides .. like in the corners. thanks.

TransparentDock! Lets you add the option to have that feature in the finder dock menu.

I think TD actually puts dock positioning options in the dock's contextual menu (do a ctrl click in the resizing space) - not in the Finder menu..

BTW, make sure you repair permissions whenever you'e finished using TransparentDock. A slight inconvenience, but well worth it 4 the unique things TD can do..

Just to further elaborate on TransparentDock..

TransparentDock helped change the way I use my Mac. I use the option to show all background processes in the dock, and have virtually made my dock empty as much as possible. Nothing is in my dock except what's running. For launching apps I use Quicksilver. So my dock now functions as a very convenient and reliable activity monitor. (and a nice-looking one, too, after giving all my background processes custom icons)

I hope I've enlightened at least someone

Actually, all you've done to me is make me long to see your Dock more than anything else

cocktail does it as well. also has some system maintenance options. i think it's better then tinkertool aside from the fact that it's not free.

I just use the Terminal

To pin to the left:
defaults write com.apple.dock pinning start;killall Dock

To pin to the right:
defaults write com.apple.dock pinning end;killall Dock

To put back in the middle:
defaults write com.apple.dock pinning middle;killall Dock

From left to right: Finder, Dock, SystemUIServer, ShapeShifter Cache Manager, etc.

if you want to take more time to do it (and maybe learn something about the dock) you can open it up in vim or TextEdit or whatever and do it manually.

Get OnyX it does the same as Cocktail but its FREE, Tinkertool I use for Fonts only and Transparent Dock for all dock hacking including the hidden Hide/Show animations
