Is anyone able to get SoftWindows 98 to work? I have the latest version 5.0.5 but alas it will not boot into windows at all.

Well, your first problem is that you're using SoftWindow98. It's not nearly as good as VirtualPC 3.0. VPC3.0 is rock-solid under OS9 and noticably faster than any other Windows emulation program. Get VPC 3.0 and you'll be much happier.

Unfortunately we can't make the switch from SW98 as we purchased 100 copies already for all our office Macs.

This is what Customer Support had to say to me about the issue:

(how long are they going to "WAIT" for info?)

From:Customer Service Sent:10/14/1999 23:29

Subject: RE: Softwindows 98 for Mac and OS/9

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your e-mail to Insignia Solutions Customer Service.
With reference to your recent inquiry, we couldn't answer you for the moment
because Softwindows/RealPC hasn't been tested on MAC OS 9 yet, we are still
waiting for some information on it.

Thank you for your interest in Insignia Solutions.

I'm not sure how this plays into this subject but I used Softwindows98 fine on my Rev A with 8.6. I installed Mac OS9 and couldn't boot past the splash screen. I didn't think too much of it as I was expecting to purchase a DV as soon as my color was available which was last Wednesday. Now I can't get Softwindows to work on either OS8.6 or OS9 on my new DV - same thing - can't get past the splash screen. My Rev A went home with my son so I can't do further testing (putting OS8.6 back on the Rev A) This doesn't add up unless its both a hardware issue with my DV and a software issue with Mac OS9. Coincidence?

That sounds real strange and unfortunately I do not have access to an iMac so I'm not sure what the problem could be. What I'd suggest is try installing OS 8.5 and then see if SoftWindows works on that. If it does, then I'd do the OS 8.6 update and try again with SoftWindows.

I myself had to go back to OS 8.6 and will wait for the OS 9.1 update in January and by then Insignia should have their act together.

Just keep in mind than Insignia sold SoftWindows and RealPC to FWB, so they should now be responsible for keeping it current.
