Hey you guys,

Again, i have searched the forums for this exact topic and just about 7200 rpm drives in general being installed in powerbooks but still had a couple of questions: I record music (mostly just 1 input but maybe 2 or 3 tracks at a time using Cubase, and for synths, i use Komplete as well as a slew of other soft synths, I also use Final Cut to edit some mini dv footage i get on tour as well as to film my very perfect dog at the dog park and his 'meet ups'. I was wondering if installing a 7200 rpm drive would make these processes and tasks be any better? faster? more efficient? would the speed bump be noticeable for the applications i use to justify the expense? i dont just mean the whole 'it runs snappier vibe though...

Also, would using my already installed, year old 100 gig 5400 rpm with my programs installed drive en-conjunction with a firewire 800 drive (would a 400 be fast enough?) be a better option? I just want my super old (April 2005) RELIABLE machine to run its finest for what i use it for.

Thanks so much for reading through this post (if you have made it this far ) and look forward to hearing all of your very fast and very informative answers. Again, i did read threads on the 7200 the they either dealt with noise, heat, and energy consumption as well as something about their being a ceiling in which a powerbook can't use drives over a certain amount of capacity.

I think i got everything for now out... im sure ill remember something right before i got to bed butt i am sure you all know what i am talking about! Anyway, thanks again in advance.

Pandas.

I have the stock 5400 rpm 80 gb hard drive in mine, which I use in conjunction with a FW800 external hard drive. I also record audio, usually directly to the 5400 sometimes up to 8 tracks at once and I've never had a problem. I use the external drive almost exclusively to store my music collection. It's very quick and doesn't feel any slower than the internal drive.

I put a modern 7200 rpm drive into my Pismo and you'd swear it was a new machine.
