Where might I find a list of the processes that a clean machine running panther would be running after booting?

from terminal

ps ax
will give you a full list of programs running and their PID (process id)

ps aux
will give the same list but also tell you what user executted the command

ps auxw
will give you the previous commands output plus it will add any paramaters that may have been given to the application on startup.

when trying to deal with this list to save yourself the copy and past headaches do something like this

cd ~
ps auxw > processes.txt

In your home directory you will find a processes.txt file with the contents of the ps commands output.
