I have chosen 128bit WEP and a password. The question is, on 3 other macs you need to select the ABS you want and enter a password, like I want it, but I my computer I don't have to, why is this? Thanks , Tom

I should add that my g4 powerbook is running 10.4.10 with extreme card and all 3 others are g3 imacs and an ibook running 10.3.9 . with origanal ap cards.
The Airport Admin. utility version is 4.1.1(420.4)
The ABS firmware is 4.0.9

Go to Applications > Utilities and open Keychain Access. In the Category 'Passwords,' look for your base station's name. If it's there, then the password is stored in your keychain and it won't ask you for one when connecting.

You should be able to set this up on your other Macs.

The airport base was not listed under keychains. Something else I tried was under network/airport/options/disconnect from wireless networks when I log out. Still after restart and shutting down there it is still online. Also changed to 40 bit and same stuff. There has got to be setting somewhere? Thanks

Separately, you may want to upgrade to WPA security if the ABS and your Macs can do it. WEP is easily broken because there is a flaw in how it handles the key. I think it can be broken now with a downloaded app and 10 minutes, given enough intercepted traffic.
