I have some "to do items" in my ical on the shelf. I've created these to do items by dragging the "to do" from the calender to the self. Here is my problem - when I click complete on the to do list on the shelf in ical or in Mail, I cant figure out a way for the event in the calender to also disappear.

Any plug ins or work arounds?

Go to the iCal prefs > Advanced. You can choose how many days after completion you want those items to disappear. They are not deleted, but hidden. This way, you can search for old to dos even after they have disappeared.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
