I love my ipod touch - when I make an appointment in cal within 10 seconds my calender on my laptop has been updated. However, if I make a change on my computers ical I have to wait till syncs (or do it manually) in order for the change to show up on the ipod. Is there a setting I am missing to make the changes I make in the calender on my computer sync instantly to my ipod touches calender?

Nope, that's how it works; the computer only updates the cloud every 15 minutes. Very lame and backward.

Who knows. Apple hasn't specified yet, so there's no way to answer your question.
Why is it so important that it's instantaneous?

Because I do alot of scheduling with students. Sometimes on the ipod touch and sometimes from home. It happened that make some changes at home then leave (without it syncing) then when I schedule on the road from the ipod I end up double booking.

Why shouldn't it be instantaneous? The difficult part (on the mobile device, with power concerns and relatively expensive data) already works.

This is less an issue of requiring new OS software on the client-side. My guess is the 15 min rate is in place for reasons on the server side. If MM becomes more popular and drives more revenue they might reduce these intervals. That ould happen ata ny time and won't need an entire system update.
