What can I do to get it out? It started getting picky about what discs it would take, spitting certain ones out immediately. This particular disc was not aproblem until the machine refused to take it back.

How difficult is it to replace the drive and/or remove and repair this one? Does anyone know of a site where I can find a step-by-step on the process?

Reboot and hold the trackpad button down. That should eject the disk.

I read the thread on a MacBook with the same problem. No dice.

Very likely your optical drive is malfunctioning - this happens all the time with the slot-loading drives. You may have to disassemble the drive to get the disk out.

It would help to know specifically what machine you have, but I found instructions for a few different PowerBook G4 models:

http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/files/G4alum12.pdf

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Do it again while holding the PB upside down.

In my old Ti-400 (PB G4) I had to open the laptop several times to get the optical drive working again. The optical drive was fine, but somehow the connector to the board had may vibrated loose. All I did was press the ribbon cable connector firmly back into the board, reassemble the case, and it started working again.

I did this several times. Worked each time. Your problem may be different, but this is simple enough to try, given how easy it is to take the back off.

I still have a disk stuck in my old PowerBook G4 titanium. I should probably try to get it out!

Try holding down the trackpad, or the eject key, upon bootup for a really long time. Like, for a minute or more.

As Simon said,
Hold the Powerbook UPSIDE DOWN.. I had the same problem recently, and
I had to boot in an upside down mode, while holding the eject key..
Worked for me!
