Google Street View on iPad - where the heck is it ?

Neither in the maps app, nor in Safari do I get any Google Street View. What the heck happened ? 
I remember that Street View was mentioned when the iPad was presented first.
Google turns up no useful links. Does anybody know ?

When you drop a pin and it shows you the name of where it is, on the left of the name is a little person thing.
Click on that and it will click to street view

This. Not sure where the little instant messaging looking icon came from to represent street view but that will get you to it.
