Power Mac 8100: best in class?

I have an 8100, some people say it sucks but do I think that...NO. It Is the Best NuBus computer out there you can have up to 264MB of RAM a G4 4MB Vram and run OS 10.2 (with Xpose Facto). tell me what you think about Older Macs or even the 8100.

I have one of those sitting on my floor at the moment, and all I can say, yes, it really is a piece of junk, at least by today's standards.
I'm considering plunking down $150 US for a used USB-endowed Pentium II 350 instead.
That will be much more functional for me (and in fact for most people) for way less cost in terms of initial used purchase price, upgrade price, and day-to-day aggravation. It would go nicely with my 1.6 GHz P4, and my iBook 600. Maybe I'll use the Apple Multiple Scan 20" from that 8100 for the Pentium. Sacrilege? Heheh.

A Pentuim?!?!?!  Don't buy a Pentium II, you could by an 8500 motherboardIt would only require a little bit of cutting & you could have a USB and Firewire computer. You could get a G4 ZIF that works in OS X.

The Mac SE does NOT have a NuBus slot, it has an SE PDS slot.
From a technician's standpoint, the Quadra 800/840AV/Power Mac 8100/8200/8500 design was the most horrible design EVER. Just putting in RAM requires practically disassembing the damn thing.

I'll agree to that. We upgraded an old Avid system running on a 8500. To get a discount from Avid I had to ship all the cards in the old 8500. It was a real pain to strip it down. In the time it took me just to remove the 8500 cover, I would have changed the graphic card, CPU and RAM on a G4.

I wasn't aware that XPF worked with NuBus (8100) machines? Is this true? Would it work with my 6100?

OS X doesn't run on Nubus machines, and probably never will. There are some fundamental differences between Nubus and PCI that make adding support a tremendous undertaking. In addition, X doesn't run on the 601. Even if you have an upgrade, you need the 601 to boot the upgrade card.
FWIW the 7200, 4400, etc probably won't ever run X for the same reason - no 601 support (heck, jaguar doesn't even support thee 603/604 anymore).
