I have my TiBook for 3 years and have had four replacements of cracked frames right above the optical bay. The crack begins to develop as a hairline crack two weeks after Apple had replace the frame. It soon developed into a complete crack just above the optical bay and eventually will stop the optical bay to accept any CD or DVD. Due to the location of the optical bay, the frame area just above the optical bay is rest on the optical bay cavity therefore not supported. All the repairs have been done under Apple Care. I was wondering if anyone else also had similar experience and if anyone can point to me to any threads on the web regarding this matter.

I am also considering upgrade to a new 15 PowerBook. But I will not upgraded until I am sure Apple had fixed the problem for the new PowerBooks. Thank you in advance.

I have had two revisions of the 15" powerbooks and have not run into this issue with any of them (knock on wood). I also am the apple tech at a AASP and I have not seen anyone bring in a Al notebook with the issue you are describing. The most problematic thing with the Al line (except the past white spots issue) are the power bricks going bad and we have to replace either brick or the brick and connectors. Waters are safe and sound, upgrade without fear my friend!
