Alright, I have a email account on Hotmail with lots of stored messages that are already seperated into folders and now I would like to get them off the Hotmail server and put them on my local mac so that I can do a backup. I was wondering how I can go about this because I tried setting up Mail to get the email but I am not sure of the proper settings for my username or password or even the type of server and/or the authentication it uses. If anyone could enlighten me as to what the settings are I would be greatly appriciative.

Thanks in advance,
Justin

Mail can't normally import from Hotmail (or Yahoo Mail, or any other Webmail service). However, the plugin HTTPMail is supposed to let you to it.

Access to Hotmail via an e-mail client now requires you to be a subscriber. Hotmail's recommended way of saving stuff is to save the pages with File->Save As in your browser. This sucks.

You could forward the mails you want individually to another mail account.

Don't use Hotmail, it sucks.

Don't know how well the HTTPMail plugin works, but I'll second this:

Yahoo Mail, GMail and pretty much any paid e-mail provider are leaps and bounds ahead of Hotmail.
