Ok, so we're half way through. UK song will be soon... Only two more hours, and six more pints of lager to go.....
Is it me, or has Apple secured subliminal suggestion adverts by getting the Greeks to put silohette dancers against single colour backgrounds during the breaks??????

Aww, Tetenal, to be fair you should have put up a picture of the girl in the band, Awa, who does the keyboards.
You're only in it for the chicks

Of which band? Post a picture of her if you have one.

I posted a picture of the Finnish band out of respect for the winner (though I'm going to burn all my Finnish possessions out of protest now). And you must admit that the Macedonian girl was gorgeousness.

If you look at the points listing from the semi-final, you'll see that Lordi cleaned up there, too.

Alright! Lordi are the undisputed champions of Europe... now they need to work on an American distribution contract.

I agree, but it's not an originality contest. Plenty of room for masked bands in the world.

My father liked the Ukranian singer. He called me after her entry and said he hoped she won. His top 5 for the night were:
1. Ukraine
2. Bosnia & Herzegovina
3. FYR Macedonia
4. Greece
5. Norway
But he said that he was afraid Finland was going to get first place because of the novelty value.
Oh, and who wants to bet that after this year, there will be a rule that the person representing the country has to be a real person and not an "act"?

Had anyone heard of Lordi before Eurovision?? Just wondering if all their stuff sounds like that or whether their fans are leaving them now for 'going commercial' and bringing out a soft song that isn't as hardcore as their usual stuff! .

Search Youtube. The band has been rather popular in Finland and I think it has always sounded the same.

The leader of the band started out doing latex masks and stuff in the eighties, then went on to do music with a band. I used to read Fangoria as a Finnish teen in the eighties, so I can relate
The current look (and even some original costume parts) is from around 1996, but their first real album is from 2002. I'm not familiar with the stuff, though. I think they've merely gone from amateur toward pro, as in 'they play better'.
Favorite tidbit: His wife and mom help out with costume and mask construction - cute. A family business

hehe. Forgot you were in England. Ok, so buy the DVD for £14.96
I honestly don't know of any torrents, but it wouldn't surprise me if there were. Perhaps they're waiting for the DVD to be released June 6 first so they have something high-quality.

Lordi rules!!!
Oh Man this is absolutly hilarious. Monsters playing metal LOL Wow I never thought I'd see this in my life!!! Obviously those guys aren't taking themself seriouly it's a big joke, very cool LOL. There is a cool clip on BBC where Lordi meets the press. It's so absurd, I'm still laughing
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4998186.stm
[edit] And you know what? Their song isn't so bad, it's actually a good rock anthem. (And I'm NOT a metal fan anymore)

[I agree with all the song analyses in Tetenal’s post, apart from these:]

Uh, sorry, which German song did you hear? I heard a horrible parody of what is already just about the worst genre of music in existence. I barely noticed the song itself because of all that country wrapping. And her voice was nothing to write home about either, exactly. Not the worst song there (by a long shot), but quite bad nonetheless.
09 Denmark should stick to drawing cartoons. Outdated rock songs is not one of their strengths.
Hm, I quite liked it, really. Not a huge fan of the twist, but it had spunk, and Sidsel has a lot of charisma, presence, and—most importantly—a great and full voice, especially for a 17-year-old. Not a winner, but deserved better than the 26 points it got, I think.
10 Russia: Hilarious with the ballerinas in the background. This is going to be a well merited last place.
If only it had been. Or, well, at least one of the last places... there were worse songs.
15 UK: A rapping teletubby
Correction: a borderline-paedophilac teletubby with a penchant for schoolgirls, who thinks he can rap and is sadly mistaken. God, what utter rubbish that song was.
16 Greece: Rather decent pop song.
Very good pop-rock song, I’d say. Great voice, and amazing stage presence! Did you notice how she managed to fill up that entire stage all on her own, without a single dancer or ‘helper’ in sight? Beautiful performance.
No no, this is good. A fairly decent song—and most importantly one that breaks the formulaic plastic-poppy Eurovision contestant song mould something thoroughly.
18 Ukraine has a Shakira as well. And she's cuter than the original even.
Tastes in looks aside (I think the looks like a molested milk-maid Heidi), the song was just horrible. To say nothing of that girl’s English—good grief! I wonder if anyone actually understood just 50 per cent of what she was singing. It took me quite a while to figure out it was even English.
20 Croatia: I need a bucket of Slivovitz now.
For once, I almost wished I drank. God, what utter crap. That woman’s ‘singing’ was downright painful to listen to. And the extreme disharmony between the choir’s and her voices didn’t make it better. Nor did the ridiculous ‘authentic’ outfits or the idiotic dances, for that matter.
23 Turkey: Actually quite good song, and süper use of Sprechgesang, but I hate tattoos, so Turkey is disqualified.
I kind of liked it too. What is Sprechgesang, exactly? The dictionary definition (“a style of dramatic vocalization intermediate between speech and song”) doesn’t make me all that much wiser...
24 Armenia: Last song. Let's say it this way: The Russian was worse.
As were several others. My only comment about the Armenian song was that I had absolutely nothing whatsoever to say about it. It was complete boredom and lack of any kind of stimulation, good or bad. The only thing that sort of piqued my interest for a moment were the suspenders that Terry Wogan had already advertised when the song began.
My top five was:
1. Finland/Greece
2. Greece/Finland (couldn’t make up my mind about those two)
3. Bosnia & Herzegovina
4. Norway
5. Denmark
[Just pointing it out, in case it’s not clear to some—this is obviously all my personal opinion and taste. Fine if you disagree with it.]
