After absolutely babying my Al 1 GHz 15" for eight months, I finally had a mishap and it was a bad one. I knocked a beer (Harpoon IPA, if you were wondering) forward and everything that spilled out went right into the PB's guts. It was foaming up and the computer stayed on for about 6 or 7 seconds before going kaput. I held it upside down for a minute or two to drain all the liquid out.

Is there any hope? Can my computer survive a third of a beer? I don't care about the files...almost all of the important stuff has been backed up.

My bet is that it is dead. I would take it to a Genius Bar if you have one of them around, but I wouldn't be hopeful. If you had it insured you can probably make a claim, otherwise it will probably be an odd smelling door stop. Sorry

If it is indeed dead, I would open that sucker up and try to clean everything up myself, if still no luck, I'd chuck some of working things on ebay and salvage some cash to help you get a new book. Good luck dude.

I did exactly the same thing to my iBook - knocked about a third of a bottle of beer over it (Stella Artois for those interested) which killed it pretty much instantly. When I opened it up a couple of days later (after letting it dry out) it was clear that the logic board was fried - the stickyness of the alchohol had fused it.

In the end our home insurance covered it, and I managed to sell the iBook and battery separately on Ebay for 300, so maybe give that a try if your pbook is dead.

But if you do spill make sure it's one of those watery light beers, less sticky - tastes great

Oooo, no don't spill the reasonably good beer, use Miller or Bud. You know the ones that are like having sex in a canoe

I did the same thing with coffee (drugs are bad...) onto my iBook, but it was only an ounce or two. I immediately took off the keyboard and wiped the inside with a paper towel. Luckily it didn't get past that metal plate under the keyboard. It's a good thing I spilled on the right side, cause on the left side is my Airport card and RAM.

But yeah, if I were you I'd buy a cheap 2.5"-->3.5" HDD dongle to test your harddrive in another computer. You could try to sell it as-is, but I think you'll get more for individual parts and then use the logic board as a souvenir.

Exact same thing happened to me, except for me it was Shiner Bock. I opened the casing and had a fan blow on it overnight, prayed, and it worked like a champ from then on out. I eventually sold the TiBook to a friend a few years later, and it works to this day.
