im somewha new to osx, and i was just looking at my HD to see what is taking up how much space. i realized that for some reason there is 2 library folders. one in the main dir that takes about 10gb, and another in /Users/Adil that takes up another 5gb.

my question is, is there supposed to be 2 of them? and if so, why and what is it actually used forthat takes up so much space?

just trying to clear up some free hd space since i only havea 60gb
Applications is 3gb
Library is 10gb
System is 2gb
Users is 30gb, all of which is my own stuff except the 5gb Library folder.

ok so i just realized that /Users/Adil/Library is mostly (4.5gb of it) Parallels and my xp VM.
still wondering though why i need 2 libary folders and if theres anyway i cane make it just one.
i am the only user on the computer, so im guessing it makes on in the main dir for "All Users" and then one in my dir just for me?

There are actually 3 Library folders:

One at /Library
One at /System/Library/
One for each user at /Users/xxx/Library

Stuff unique to each user is stored in their personal Library while the other 2 Library folders are OS related-Hands Off!

You can't change this arrangement. It's the way the OS is designed.

Only the /System/Library one is hands off. The Library folder at the root of your drive is just for stuff that applies to all users, and you can modify it all you want.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
