I'd have to know a LOT more about the conditions on that road at that time before I took that chance. I plan on eventually (note that-eventually) achieving "fogey" status in the distant future.

Congrats Glenn!!! I just recently graduated from Berklee College of Music with a bachelors of music. I bet you're really excited, as I was.

side note: The national color standard for the tassel and shoulder piece for music is pink.

Graduation is tomorrow morning. Excited is a mild term!

I don't know where the tassel color came from but the hood's velvet (that light blue/teal, called "peacock blue") is for Occupational Therapy, and the school colors, burnt orange and white (yeah, it's a University of Texas school) show in the satin lining. The blue and yellow cords are for Pi Theta Epsilon, the OT honor society.

don't know what i'd have to search for to get an image like that. maybe 'ginger beard' or something. i've never been suspected of being a fake before so this is kinda new and funny. a quick look at the exif data on the photos i've put in the critique thread and this one would show that the same lens and camera were used.

Makes one realise that you do not need 54 billion mega-turbo-pixels and ISO-480000000 to take good pictures.
exactly. i still get tons of use out of a canon 10D. the only thing it lacks is good low light auto-focusing and of course high ISO images require more noise reduction. it's all about who's at the controls.

I don't know why people would be amazed that a 10D can "still" take good photos. A few years ago it took photos so amazingly great that they blew the world's collective mind. I don't think anything's changed except that max resolution has gone up a bit since then but you can't notice that on the internet or on normal prints. You can just blow them up a little huger these days without seeing pixels. Makes no diff. I have a 5D too so I can appreciate the large sensor and hi-res as much as the next guy, but I think you have to be realistic about what it takes to do good photography. We've gone past that point a while back.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

Agreed. It really is dumb. I love the reactions I sometimes get when people see I'm using a D40.

Don't even reply. Get some business cards printed with a link to your Flickr account. Give one to the appropriate idiot. Then when they get home and look at your photos, they'll realize what twats they were.

I've seen a D40 with non-VR lens on sale in the UK that I'm SERIOUSLY tempted to get. Found a few comments (from Pentax fanboys) about the slow auto-focus of the K200, so I've changed my mind - again.

This dSLR stuff is really complicated for us noobs.

I've been quite happy with my D40 kit lens(non VR). There's a couple of bits of plastic floating around inside it(I like to shake it and listen to them). Still focuses fast and hasn't hurt anything near as I can tell. Probably has something to do with shooting in nightclubs and while drunk. -_-

Something like 12000+ shutter actuations using that lens.

The D40 with standard 18-55mm on Amazon.co.uk is £279 and the D60 with the VR 18-55 is £379 ($160 difference) - what to do, what to do ???

I dunno. I talked myself out of caring about megapixels and got the D40(6MP). I've printed dozens of prints at 13x19" and they're beautiful. Obviously that involves a bit of careful upsizing in photoshop, but the results impress everyone that sees them.

Those megapixels really only help if you're printing large(as was pointed out already, and I'm sure you know).

My next post will have a photo of me, promise.

The return of calverson means the return of this thread. Many broken links by now, but still a humorous (if somewhat infantile) read. (Yes, I just read through all of it)

Shall we see if we can manage to keep it a tad more … how shall I put this? … straight, this time around? Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Yeah, he is really a master of his art. Another one I really like (albeit completely diff style) is Brad Trent.

IMO the worst thing you can say to a photographer when looking at his portfolio is "damn, you must have a nice camera". I am guessing you use the 70-200 f2.8, and I am guessing a D3 or D700?

Don't worry, I'm not offended to answer. I use a D700, primarily with the 85mm f/1.4D and 35mm f/1.4G. Both of these were with the 35mm.

My favorite photographers are actually polar opposites from Brenizer, but I love getting people to check out their stuff: The Image Is Found.

There's very few pics of Uncle Doof in existence, due to the fact that I'm the most un-photogenic peeps on the planet (I absorb light rather than let it go to waste by bouncing off me) thus hate having my photo taken. But I can confirm, the above photo is Uncle Doof. No trickery.
