every time when i turn on my mbp, the clock is slow by 4 hours. My time zone is EST and I made sure I set it to that. And when I recheck the "Set date and time automatically" it still give me the incorrect time. I have to manually adjust the time forward by 4 hours to fix this problem each time.

Does anyone know why it's like this every time i turn on my mbp? thanks.

Which time server are you using? Have you tried any of the other time servers?

Are you at any time booting into Windows? That four hour issue sounds just like the difference between GMT and Eastern Daylight Time...

Unfortunately, Apple hasn't managed to get the whole "Windows sets the hardware time to local while OS X wants it to be GMT" thing fixed yet. Typically, I manually update my time using a timeserver (I use time.nist.gov) when I go back to OS X after running Windows. It's a minor pain, but it does the trick.

Open Date & Time. In the box next to "Set Date and Time Automatically:" there's a dropdown box with probably "Apple Americas" or something showing. Simply type in "time.nist.gov" and that's it. Now close Preferences. The next time you open Date & Time, it should automatically sync with your selected (time.nist.gov in this case) time server.

From a Windows background, I looked high and low for an "OK" button or something, but Macs just don't need that-when you change something, it's changed.
