The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Personally, I'm in reader's camp, I hate this feature with a vengeance, but I'd prefer to keep this as an option. What's infuriating is when a third party (Huddler) makes that decision for you.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Awesome work Reader!

Since you are already making a few vB tweaks, how would you feel about installing something like Bootstrap (http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap, http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/scaffolding.html#responsive) or the YUI CSS Reset/Fonts/Grids in prep for the templates being updated to be responsive? For now you wouldn't have to do anything but try including the CSS and see what effect it has. You'll probably want to eventually incorporate a tool like this anyway, maybe it makes sense to toy with installing it now?

Not sure how long it's been active but I like the mobile site. Footer still says Huddler, so will the mobile site be staying?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Huddler got their mobile stuff into play shortly after we won our escape. We'll have to find (or hack up) a mobile theme for vB.

I can't take any credit for the mobile theme, but the PM import script is working as of last night. I've edited the status post above.

I have got to admit, the mobile site is pretty good, one of the best mobile forums I have seen.

Kudos to Huddler, seems like they are not completely useless.

I'd still consider giving Huddler more time. They have (albeit slowly) added features we've asked for and using the tools they've designed, spam is almost down to zero on a forum with up to 3000 posts a day.

It's rather like the times you convert a friend to using a Mac from Windows and they keep wanting it to behave like Windows does. Or, back when people moved to OSX and would get frustrated it didn't behave exactly the same as OS9 did.

I don't know at what times you're online. Spam is worse by a factor of five than it's ever been.

Edit: 14 out of the 50 /newposts threads are currently spam.

The ****ing online movie spammers apparently go through Huddler's roster and spam every one of their forums to death, and now we've got the stolen credit card sales assholes, as well.

In addition to the occasional Prada, sports shoe, smartphone, and investment sales people that we had before.

2nd edit: 16.

Thank you, our Moderators are the spam protection here.

Conversion coding resumed - I spent the last few evenings fixing a friend's Mac.

And I still miss pop-up folders. The Control Strip was handy too, but I miss the folders more.

The forum I run has up to 3k posts per day and very few of them are spam now. If the admins here want suggestions on how to use the features in Huddler to deal with spam (even while they wait to convert back to VB) they are welcome contact me.

Attachments are proving a headache. The filenames didn't match those in the DB dump. So I assumed they'd randomized the filenames and spent a few evenings writing a custom matching script. To match the images based on unique filesize and extension. Which gave only one false match - image dimensions did not match those listed in the DB.

It turns out they gave us 1 GB of someone else's forum images. Specifically: www.mommysavers.com

Kudos to Thorz for suggesting image search to figure out where they came from. They are heavily toy-themed. Lots of miniatures, lego, muppets. I should've done a quick look and figured it out - we usually post more computer-related images here.

It is a travesty and underscores how dead this place is.

I was considering starting a thread last week commenting on how the spammers seem to always make three threads somewhere between 8 and 10 am EST everyday, but I see my Lounge brethren are on top of things.

I suppose this is Huddler's fault and in that case this is one of Huddler's worst features.

When I view the Mac Desktops forum, 3 of the last 25 threads are at least initially legitimate. The other 22 are deleted due to spam (and thus hidden from you).
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Why? Just look at the /newposts page at around 9:35 a.m. CET every morning (there's several waves a day). Same impression.

You should see the number of spammers we catch before or immediately after they manage to post. Moderating this place could be a full-time job now, thanks to the continual, un-checked spammage.

But we can choose not to scroll down, they can't.

We need to feel their pain, if only for a fleeting moment.

Would you surmise the change in rate is an effect of the fourms being linked to the comments?

Perhaps, in terms of heightened visibility. However, I believe the increase is primarily due to a lack of robust up-front filtering. And that's all I will say on that topic.

Status update.

Attachments are sorted. I've updated the beta site (up to Nov 6), and staff are poking around it for bugs. We're adding member invites as well, again for bug hunting.

Appearance or functional bugs are interesting, but they're more likely in the imported data:
• user accounts
• posts
• threads
• polls
• PMs
• attached images
• NewsPoster posts should appear as full HTML

subego, Ω, spheric harlot - look for a PM.

note: Huddler uses a different password hashing scheme than vB, so I couldn't sync back changes. You'll still have your old pass under vB. All new users under Huddler will need to reset PW when we migrate back.

If anyone wants to look for bugs, post here. Any of the admins can grant access. admission not guaranteed

We're mostly looking for broken content that wasn't converted properly. It looks good, but extra eyes can be helpful.

Makes it a little hard to test the system then. You can still access the last post thread though. You can also still read the archive threads.

We have a return date. The forums are scheduled to go down this Friday afternoon (Pacific: GMT-8).

Conversion is expected to take more than one evening, so the forums should come back up Sunday or Monday morning. I'll post some status updates on the Forums Closed placeholder page during the conversion.

It's been a long road, but we're finally on the home stretch.
