I just received a greek .doc document. i cannot read it, all i see are flat lines and rubbish.
macos 9 install cd doesn't support greek. Now i found a url :
http://www.wormintheapple.gr/grpatch/

it provides a patch so i can write in greek. but, i still cannot open the .doc document. what could be the cause of this? because oit was written on a pc maybe? or something else

how do i solve this?

From my experience assisting a college professor set up Greek languages for his research, the first question I ask is, which dialect of Greek? I set his up for 6 different alpabetical sets, used for different dialects and eras. Second, did the writer use a ISO format for the Greek layout? If it is proprietary, you will ned the same formatter/layout tools, if available. Alternately, it may be a Unicode document, in which case try converting the .doc to .rtf and open it in TextEdit (if you are using OS X), or BBEdit (one that supports Unicode).

That's all I can think of currently.

Good Luck!

In Word 2001, open the document, Select All, choose Tools/Languages/Mark selected text as Greek.
