ping is based on internet connection. so if you aren't using any connection heavy apps while playing and its still lagging, then you probably need to buy a new connection.

Or get closer to the wireless router, right?

But that still doesn't make sense because I can play America's Army NO PROBLEM AT ALL!!!

By lag do you mean a delay in communication time between client/server(i.e. people skipping about) or the game being choppy? If it's choppy turn down the GFX options, otherwise it's time for a new isp.

Or choose a game server that's closer to you and and lower in ping.
Scooters are more fun than computers and only slightly more frustrating

Distance is part of it, but not all. Ping measures the quality of a connection to a remote host. It is affected most obviously by the physical distance between hosts, but can be affected by other things. For example, if you are on a wireless network with a poor connection, you will get lower ping times, so being closing to the antenna will, in fact, help. So will ditching the wireless connection altogether.

However, there are other factors as well. It can be affected by other people sharing your network connection - so tell your little brother to quite downloading porn torrents while you're gaming. And it can be affected by too many people on your subnet; if you're on cable internet and all your neighbors are downloading movie previews you'll get crappy ping times, even if the server is very close.

And so on and so on.
