iPod Backlilght Trick

Searched the forums, but didn't find this one. Thought I'd share it...
I keep my iPod backlight always off to cut down on battery use and annoyance factor. By accident, I discovered that holding down the menu button turns on the backlight, and holding it down again turns it off. Works from any screen. Handy for those rare times I find myself in the dark.
BTW, this is a 10GB touch-wheel model, but I can't imagine it doesn't work across the iPod line

How cool is this? I've had my iPod for just over a year now (bought it at my local Apple Store the Saturday they were available) and never knew this! Just tried it out on my original 5gb iPod and it works... 
I always keep my backlight off and this is an awesome feature... Thanks!

Yeah, its quite a handy littlle feature. I found it when I was trying to reset my original 5GB model.
Got a 10gb touch pad now!

I guess that when I finally got mine I was in too much of a hurry to get to the goodies. I skipped right over the manuals.

Yeah, I am really big on not reading manuals too, would rather just play with it and find out on my own. In this case I happened to look through it, I think I was wondering about the charging, kinda a price toy to screw up.

I usually read the manual in bed the day after I have my new toys.
I always find I discover some new feature or fun fact.
It also prolongs the excitement and fun of the new gadget.

Here's another trick that's probably in the manual but I didn't absorb in a casual flick-thru'...
While a song is playing, if you click the center button then spin the wheel, you can move to any point in the timeline.
For regular 5 minute songs, this is not so important - the fast forward button would be okay - but for long talking book type segments, it is very useful.
I've been ripping DVD commentaries into MP3 to listen to on the move - most recently the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition (which has FOUR 3.5 hour commentaries!) - and the iPod's quick access function is very useful here.

Why read the manual? All of the cool features (like this one) will be discussed on the various Mac Fora. I never read manuals, but read online religiously.

heheh oh man u guys really need to read the manual, even if its just a poster. I learned this trick way before i had my ipod, when it frist came out. i dont know how though.

Better yet, press menu&play to reset, then immediately press fwd-rew-ctr button and go into the diagnostic window.
Discovered yesterday, if you're using the remote, listening to tunes and playing breakout, you can use the remote to change volume, FF, REW etc.
