Forgive my ignorance, but will the stuff shown to developers at WWDC be reported to us as well (via the developers)... or will they be under NDA?

I mean, some stuff may be hush hush, but will we get most of it?

I don't remember what the deal was with previous WWDC's...

Oh, and check out this quote:

"Moving to June ensures that every developer will leave the event with a copy of Panther in their hands."

hehehe....

Typically, the keynote is reported upon so you can hear the upcoming stuff. I don't think too much is covered by NDA except for maybe some of the sessions getting really in-depth with the underlying technology.

But I've never been, so perhaps someone can shed some more insight...?

(should not violate nda) Last year we were first shown a presentation by Jobs & co all of the great things that 10.2 was going to have. All the ooh's and ah's that steve likes to here. Then he announced that as we left the keynote, we would be handed our very own copy of pre-release jaguar.

Everything looks like it's going to work the same way. The details of panther will be explicitly revealed to the developers (under NDA) and a preview release will be given to each attendee.

There was also a slight mention that Apple had better not see any developer copies of Jaguar on any file-sharing systems, or people would lose ADC membership.

It's on the Apple's homepage now. Wow. That's great news
I was expecting 10.3 to be released later than that..

...commence the leaking of pre-Panther builds.
... commence the compaining of how a pre-release build of Panther hosed all your precious porn.

Also, I can not wait for people to start arguing about which is the latest build XXXXC, XXXXD or XXXXZ. Especially, the vocal users that claim that their build does not have any debug code in it.

Damn. I had forgotten all those "debates" over debug code. And this will also lead to those stupid "snappy" discussions as well...argh!

Heheh, you have to remember people running Jaguar builds on Rev A. iMacs or something and complaining about how slow and un-Snappy TM it was.

I can see people posting about 10.3 installs on iBook 500 and how much it sucks.

The discussions may be stupid, pointless and just retarded. But they are immense fun. Personally, I can not wait. I just need to source myself a slow ass new-world Mac to install 10.3 builds on ... my work machine is untouchable.

Prepare for the:

- inevitable Debug Code conversation
- Snappy-ness (TM) updates (at every 10.3 build number)
- pre-release ruined someone's hard drive, iTunes library, iPhoto library, etc. rants
- how the pre-release runs SO much slower then 10.2
- how OS X 10.3 should run on older hardware
- how Panther costs WAY too much!!! rants.
- Panther still hasn't fixed XXX rants.
- "What is Apple Thinking" rants.
- I'm switching to Windows rants.

Ugh, it was a mess in this forum before 10.2 finally was released...

I would suspect this release will also mean Apple is going to show off the IBM 970 chip and announce they will support it. Be delaying the conference, they don't have to worry about killing their Powermac sales in the mean time (at least not entirely).

According to this on Mac Minute developers will definitely be getting a copy of Panther:

"Our annual Worldwide Developers Conference provides our developers an in-depth look at the future of the Mac platform, and giving everyone a preview release of Panther is the best way to do that," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "Moving to June ensures that every developer will leave the event with a copy of Panther in their hands."

Bring on the 970s!!
Nothing to see, move along.

From my uninformed point of view, it seems that there are some rather large changes being made with OS X for it to actually delay an entire conference. Whether that means that it's being adjusted to run on a new class of processors, or that core components are being radically changed (such as a database-like file system and a Finder to match), either way it makes me giddy with anticipation to know that real fundamental work is being done on the future of OS X.

To me this seems more of a positive indication than anything else

There won't be a Macworld this year. There may be a tradeshow that has a graphics interest but it won't be called Macworld.

Personally, I think it's time Apple fell in line with other tradeshows, CES, Siggraph and the lot.

It's kinda nice that Steve get's his way to introduce something wonderful once more.

Wrong. There will be a Macworld NY this year, and Apple will be there.
