I have faced same problem on many Java web based apps, like games mostly.
That on all of browsers have same problem with loading up the apps (if it even loads up some times) or that apps are very unstable compared to my windows experience's..
So i just like to know is it just me who have this kind of problems ..

(this is first thing that i find a bit not-so-good on my new experience to mac world)

I don't know but I'll hazard I guess that these problematic pages are departing from Sun's specification for Java, and instead are using some Microsoft-specific coding, and as such should be flamed.

Like the useless BT/Yahoo site which I'd simple have never visited if it hadn't been mandatory thanks to the idiotic 'upgrade' forced upon customers thanks to the 'merger' of Yahoo and BT's internet services, and the subsequent problems in accessing POP mail. (We've 'upgraded you to Webmail' - Thanks but NO THANKS you fcking tossers . . . !)

Could you perhaps provide some links to the problematic sites?

Well, not actually any specific sites or apps, it just generally lacks..
I rememb this one only (it's not english site though )
link here
Click the link above, then there is about middle of page quite big header "Huoneet:" and under it there is link to the game (this time chess [shakki = means game 'chess']) which is named "> Vieras" and it's red colored.

I hope you got through my crappy "tutorial".

The game seems to load fine with Safari 1.2 and Java 1.4.2... what is the problem exactly?

Works fine here with Safari 1.2 and Java 1.4.2 as well, it seems. Now, if I could just find my Finnish dictionary somewhere...
