I don't think this is a defect, but I didn't notice it until today. I've never had such an expensive phone, so I just want to make sure it's ok. There is a small area of what looks like dark screen space all around the border of my iPhone's screen. I pointed it out in the picture below. It runs all around the screen in between the lit part and the actual black borders (please ignore the case on the phone).

I tried searching for pictures of other peoples' phones, but couldn't find anything that showed this clearly. Thanks!

Its normal. Its on both the 1st gen and 2nd gen iPhones. I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the new iPhones have a more noticeable border.

Yeah, the border on my 3G iPhone is larger. It's annoying but normal.

Awesome! Thanks for the quick replies. I figured it was normal, but I wasn't sure. I wanted to make sure nothing was wrong and I wasn't being "cheated" out of valuable screen real estate.

Actually my iPod touch has a more noticeable (thicker) border since I upgraded it to 2.0. It is easily seen when booting, but I don't have pics of prior 2.0 to compare. Though it is definitely a least three or more pixels lost compared to the previous firmware. Apple needs to update soon.

Haven't noticed any border on my iTouch.
