I just woke up and checked SETI - it says "Waiting to retry connection to server." Is anyone else having this problem? I left it running all night with my screen dimmed (Pismo).

I have gotten this message at different times on diff machines. Has not *ever* seemed to be SETI's fault. Usually a prob with my internet connection. (like *duh* leaving my modem unplugged).

On my Wallstreet, I have inexplicably gotten stuck with that message even when all other internet access is working fine. (hasn't hit my Pismo or iMac as yet) I've done everything there (except reload SETI software) and cant connect - so I sometimes just email the SETI@Home Data folder to myself and send from another machine. Hopefully yours won't be so chronic... but I'd love it if someone found local-machine soft/hardware cause of this message!

Well, all the above remains true, but...

Now that i try to access SETI's homepage I find my browser saying "stalled" - so prob Berkeley is doing maintenance... or having brown-out... or something.

I have tried 4 different connections, on twice as many machines and I cannot report results. I also cannot get to their website. I also tried to initialize a new client and cannot download a new unit. I am guessing they are down.

I have been noticing this since 7:00 AM ET and it is now almost 10 AM.

Still nothing here - no website, no connection... nothing! This is odd that they would not provide any advanced warning. I hope it's nothing serious.

Still down, 6:15 MST. Seems the whole space science server is down, couldn't find anything at general Berkeley site... very odd.

Still fully down, home page and server. I think the little green men are just taking names and adresses of SETI members to erase them for their own security. i just have a strange fellow knocking at my door...
Seriously, it must be a pretty bad problem as there was no warning. My guess is that their new equipment was not enough to load all the data we are sending them. Note that for over 2 months now, it has been impossible to get personal stats for the last 10 work units.

Bockie, I'm with you for RC5, but when seti comes back up- I'll be back hunting for them aliens

Maybe seti made an Alti-Vec client and finished all the WU's in one night

Now, sitting around wishing I had downloaded a bunch of WUs in reserve... It's a good time to wonder...

Anybody an AppleScripting guru? Give guidance on how to Script (nonscriptable) SETI to do SUM-like stuff without SUM's rip-off?

15:00 EST. Still down.

I'm loving SUM right now. I only run it on one of my comps (the only one that takes under 1 day to do a unit), but that comp has enough WUs to keep me going for a week or more on my Macs.
No help for my linux machine, and the PCs at work aren't worth doing, but the Macs will keep on crunching

Now I'm gonna pass some of you

I normally run SUM on my semi-retired cyborg 8500 that I took to work, because it has no internet connection. I hate being stuck on a PC. I had 2 new units cached tho on the G4 dual so I fired SUM up on it this morning too. Should be able to keep crunching for a week or two(still have 29 wu's in cache on the 8500) at the rate v3.03 now takes. With both Macs running at about 75%, I'm getting out 2-3/day...life goes on.

Vandals cut the fiber optic cable to the UC Berkeley's Space Sciences Lab. Probably won't be back up until Friday.

That REALLY sucks.
Were they aliens?
Well, if it will be up friday, I will have enough units to keep going until then.
I've got 17 left, plus what I'm still crunching now.

Dammit. Still down.
i usually have enough units for when this happens, about 5 on each of my iMacs, but I've already crunched them all

So, I'm doing some RC5. (Thanks for that link before, Brock76)

it works, sent in units, only lost about 2 units(crunch time lost).

All those without SUM are gonna be not well off after this, but my fast comps had SUM, slow ones didn't matter

Well, it's about time!!! I have decided to run D.net in the background while I work at my iMac, and let SETI run while the iMac is idle. How do others running multiple clients allocate cpu usage?
