There is another thread about Cheap but great products... good thread to find new stuff.

Then I wondered what were the inexpensive things that we love to do that give us joy/pleasure? [please keep it clean.]

Here are mine:
1. Playing with dirt (as in gardening).
2. Drinking a glass of water after a long run.
3. Pizza and beer, first bite and first gulp. (which often leads to next one).
4. Taking a piss after holding it for a while.

There are more, but these are the ones that come to mind.

And I would add, after a long day hiking or paddling. Then food, any food, tastes great, and resting your body, being warm and dry, and just hanging around the campsite is the most wonderful feeling in the world, second only to one other.

I second all that, but to add one pre step to all that, I always love taking off my hiking boots off after an all day hike. I always think of freedom and flying.

Don't be so quick to accuse. The Linguistic Society of America actually dictates that the period be placed outside the quotation marks.

Actually, nowadays it is accepted in either location. However, in computer documentation, it will usually be outside the quotes, as some Unix programs (notably vi, but others as well) use "." as "repeat last command". Classic example is deleting a line of text - "dd" in vi - if, at the end of a sentence, would you type '"dd."' or '"dd".' - the first deleting two lines if typed literally. As the punctuation belongs more to the sentence, not necessarily the quote, those more familiar with the literal logic of the computer are more likely to put the punctuation outside the quote-marks, unless the punctuation logically belongs with the quote. Thus, both are commonly accepted these days, but computer users tend to prefer the punctuation outside the quote-marks.

Oh, as this is a computer-based forum, people here should tend to prefer the punctuation outside the quotes (notice the "tend" - there are exceptions to every generalization (including this one)).

Re: Linguistic Society "dictates"... actually they say:
______________
The second member of a pair of quotation marks should precede any other adjacent mark of punctuation, unless the other mark is part of the quoted matter: The word means `cart', not `horse'. He writes, `This is false.'
______________

(not that I take 'dictation' from them anyway). [besides they don't even produce a web page that balances quotations correctly (note ` and ' ) ]

Also, this is taken from instruction for submission of manuscripts to their journal, not a pronouncement of "what is acceptable."

True, and taking off your heavy backpack after carrying it around all day--such a feeling of weightlessness.

I guess that is secret to camping... at the end of the day, the little accomplishments and reliefs of stopping the day's toil makes for awesome times. If only it could be bottled... oh yeah, beer.

Q: Why did the guy keep hitting himself in the head with a hammer?

A: Because it felt so good when it stopped.

I remember actually jumping around as a kid, because I felt like I was on the moon after 5 miles with 40 lbs. on my back. I haven't felt that in far too long.

Great thread - I almost feel like going for a run or bike ride just to get that buzz afterwards of insane tiredness but also satisfaction... however it's 1.50 in the morning so I think I'll give it a miss and god to bed instead.

Aside from the sex thing - just going out with someone new who you really like. Remember that feeling of all-round happiness with the world? That's what I feel like right now. Don't worry, normal cynical service will probably be resumed soon enough
