When you close the screen on the MacBook does it go into the normal sleep mode?
That is what it seems like. So, for instance, after logging out all users, the log in screen comes up and you can click the sleep button to enter sleep mode. My question is does simply closing the lid cause the machine to enter the normal sleep mode as well.
How about when logged in as a user with apps running. Is closing the lid an OK way to enter sleep or is there benefit to navigating to File>Sleep.

The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

You don't even have to log out. Just close the lid.

Yes, closing the lid is exactly equivalent to clicking 'Sleep' in the menu.
In both cases it's literally like pausing the entire computer. I've shut the lid on my PowerBook in the middle of big application compiles, image processing, all kinds of stuff, and woken it up with nary a problem.

In theory. On my MacBook selecting Sleep from the menu always works. However, closing the lid doesn't always invoke sleep mode... it results in the CPU going to 100%, the fan running at high speed and the MacBook getting hot enough to fry and egg on.
