Transmission has a lot of bugs still, but they do put out updates pretty quick.

Some trackers also don't support it, so I also have Azureus on my hard drive. Ugly slow Java but works great.

I prefer Azureus. Too bad someone can't code it for Mac native and put a better GUI on it.

It's not the developers fault or that they were lazy, it's Apple's poor implementation of Java on OS X.

I've heard newer versions of uTorrent are somehow connected to the RIAA, or that it sends the info of what you're downloading to some company. At this point I think it's just rumors, but I'd still be kind of cautious about using it.
Currently own:
iMac 17" Core Duo 1.83GHz - 2GB RAM - 160GB HDD
MacBook 13.3" (Santa Rosa) 2.2Ghz Core 2 Duo - 1GB RAM - 120GB HDD
iPod Video - 30gb - 5.5 gen.

If true, that'd be shocking. And criminal -- unless they made the user aware of it.

Whenever you use any Bittorrent app to pirate software you are putting yourself at risks. Do not think for a moment that you can fly under the radar with Bittorrent.

I use Tomato Torrent. Works fine for me. It uses more clutter-inducing small windows for each torrent, but it's so simple and intuitive.

I use Xtorrent. It's not free but it a great piece of software. David Watanabe is one of the best interface designers around.

I also use Transmission with great success. I've tried Tomato Torrent, Xtorrent (trial), Azureus, and the original BitTorrent. So far Transmission has been the best for me and recommend it without hesitation.

Azureus. It's the only client you can use with confidence on private trackers (many others boink your ratio). Though with that being said, it's ugly and a bit hefty on resources. There's certainly room for a better client.

Another question; isn't it illegal to just download a game? There's Age of Mythology, GTA, and many others, just ready for download. Seems like it would be illegal, but then again, using LimeWire to download things is entirely legal as long as you use it for only your use.

In most places, both are illegal.

Anywhere where copyright law exists and is enforced and where the game (or whatever) in question happens to be sold. In general.

What other things are BitTorrent used for then, if not for illegal things? I would have only seen myself using it to download games, but since its illegal, no thanks.

Oh I'm sure. That small chance you just might get fined or go to jail. Exciting.

I reccomend Transmission as well. It's no-nonsense straight up downloading. Not very technical, just downloads. One feature they could use is priorities for downloading things, so if you needed one disc out of a two-disc torrent, you could choose not to download the other disc etc.

Several companies use it to distribute software legitimately. For instance, I believe Blizzard's Updater uses Bittorrent under the hood. But yeah, it's mostly used to distribute less legit things.

And it's this popular? Boy, you all must be gutsy. Or I must be a total wimp. I don't know. I like life outside the bars.

How popular did Napster become so quickly? And Limewire?

In general, it's impractical if not downright impossible to prosecute individuals for downloading things illegally. In the only major case where anybody's tried, the RIAA resorted to basically suing random people and hoping that their victims would settle.

I'm not saying people should download things illegally, but just as far as fear of punishment goes, I know more people who have gotten in trouble for jaywalking.

I occasionally use Transmission, but I prefer Acquisition.
Torrents support initially felt like an after thought, but in recent updates it has improved significantly.

Acquisition is not free, but I think it is money well spent. I try to find lots of old and obscure music tracks so as a general P2P client it is great.

Thanks guys, and to everyone else, there's no point in posting anything more here. I've been told about all the major applications, but in the end, decided I'd better not do any illegal game downloading, which is all I'd really use it for.

Thanks anyways.
