So during the Iraq War and all the numbskulls who supported the idea of WMDs, Powell was this great man who only underlined the importance of invading Iraq. He didn't lie because he worked with the "evidence" they had at the time. The Bush Administration didn't lie, it was all a matter of emphasis.
Now that Powell supports Obama he's magically the most horrible man on the planet. He lied to the American people about the war. No one can trust him. Blah, blah, blah.
So many flip flops in here you'd think it's IHOP.

It cuts both ways. Many of us lost a lot of respect for what he was willing to do and say for the Bush admin regarding the war. Just because he happens to endorse the candidate you've been backing doesn't suddenly restore his credibility.
(That's 'you' in the general sense)

Powell is a Republican. Obviously you'd say down is up---or that science Noble prizes are given out for political reasons---if that helped McCain.

As someone else mentioned , the biggest part of this "endorsement" is that Powell will NOT be campaigning for BO. If Powell felt so strong about BO, he would be out stumping for him.

I wonder what happened to Powell's chances of being McCain's pick?

I really think this was a key move to a now likely democratic victory. It's basically saying "the current republican administration has screwed us ... we can't risk that any more" - that one vote will entail thousands more.

Powell can call himself whatever he wants. "Republicans" have had a problem with Powell for years because he supports very little that is "republican". What was always a surprise (and why it was news at the time) is that Powell would endorse people he has so little in common with politically, and that would be most anyone in the Republican party.
This isn't limited to his Presidential support for a socialist whose views are the polar opposite of mainstream Republicans. That simply seals the deal on what most already assumed about him.

stupendousman: was the bailout plan that Bush, McCain, and Obama eventually endorsed socialist? If so, it must be hard being tethered to your political views these days!

Clearly not socialism, since they took money from the poor and gave it to the rich. It's taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor that's bad.
Socialism to help businesses and the wealthy = good
Socialism to help the less well-off = bad

I was in the middle of typing a similar reply. But looks like you beat me to it.

One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

Not really important; since it is the electoral college that decides who is going to be the next president and delegates are not the type to take risks.
