I have a B/W G3 that I upgraded with a G4 processor. It has 512 RAM, and I plan to upgrade that to 1G. Will I be able to run Final Cut Pro on this machine? Somewhere I read that it wont. Something about altivec not being native. I'm not sure that I really even know what that means. It has a DVDrw that works fine with iDVD and iMovie, but I'd like to get into FCP.

Final cut 3 will definitely run, and you *should* be able to run 4 with the g4 processor upgrade, 5 should run too, but I won't say that definitely.

You might also try Final Cut Pro 2/3 on Mac OS 9, and Avid FreeDV, if a limited number of tracks is okay with you.

Use FC3.

That way you'll appropriately be using old software for an old machine.
