I just bought a new macbook. white 2 ghz 1 gb ram and it seems to run slow. programs seem to take a while to load... like safari, takes a few seconds but used to be very fast. that may or may not be a problem. internet seems fine though, same download speeds that i got with my pc.

so heres my situation, my friend gave me a a program called crossover. I dont know if it was a legal copy, but it worked. It allows you to use windows apps on your mac, i had never tried playing any games on my mac before so i tried instaling steam, the program automatically installs it. it seemed very, very slow and took ages to load. but technically worked. The latency i got on servers was around 1000 or more and it just sucked.
today i downloaded a demo of unreal tournament, never played before on pc, and it loade ok, but once i got to the game it was slow, the mouse was ruff and the game was laggy.
does anyone else have this problem with playing games on the mac or am i just stupid?

UT2k4 has been ported to mac so there is no reason to try and emulate the windows version.

Google search for onyx or cocktail, those apps can help you speed it up.

Maybe the OS X installation is hosed or corrupt from the previous owner. It should have come with restore discs. You should consider formatting and reinstalling the Mac OS on your MacBook.

You should reinstall. It should fix everything. Also, run the hardware test that came with the restore CDs.
