This is just a short little request, because for the past couple of years I've seen it at every MacWorld show: Apple doesn't announce faster PowerMacs during the keynote, and there's at least a few people that get unnecessarily riled up about it. Please, don't do that this year.

Apple hasn't announced PowerMac upgrades at a MacWorld since summer 2001, and even the WWDC show was more of an exception due to a brand-new architecture. Apple is much more likely to do exactly what they've done from 2002 onwards, announce the new systems in late January or early February.

On that note, please don't also run out and buy a G5 now if you don't need it.

Thank you.

I won't complain... but I will

Well, as long as they release them before March. That's when my Student ADC membership expires...

I won't complain. That will mean my Mac is still the fastest Mac on the planet.

(Ignoring certain supercomputers in Blacksburg, VA of course)

Well, given I thoroughly trust ThinkSecret, as they are rarely wrong, and they say nop new G5's, I'm not getting my hopes up to begin with

Good call! I think there are faster G5 coming Feb/Mar or so. I have been saving my nickels and dimes (and by April, my tax return) to update my current desktop situation. So if new models are out by the time Uncle Sam pays me, I will see what I need ... latest and greatest or 2x2.0 or even 2x1.8.
IMHO expect 3+ by May or June!

Okay. Instead, I'll just complain extra loud if there is no 20th Anniversary Macintosh!

Happy?

I won't complain, either.
I'll get to hang on to my "I've got the fastest Mac currently made" mantra for a little longer

I won't complain either. Because the fact that new, faster, better PowerMacs are coming quite soon is a certainty. Jobs said publicly that we will be at 3ghz around midyear and IBM is slightly ahead of schedule. Although there's been discussion here about what will appear in early Jan., we know, for sure, we'll see some pretty amazing PMs over the next couple of months. For most people, whether you buy in Jan or hold off a few weeks after that doesn't make a big difference. For some, it does, obviously.

Bah! If they don't come out at MWSF, I WILL be disappointed.

In any case, despite the claims otherwise on the rumour sites, I predict that there WILL be new G5s at MWSF.

I'll complain *AT* macworld SF. lol.

Ok just kidding but still - I won't be upset but majorly dissapointed. If intel used to run this ghz race I'm sure apple and IBM, two of the best tech companies around, can beat it.

Complaining about complaining before the complaining takes places. I guess I should complain about the complaining about the complaining.

This thread rocks!

Why are people worried about new G5s? I thought everyone was looking forward to 1.6Ghz G5 iMacs with magnesium enclosures and anti piles laser beams

Seriously though, I think any new PowerMacs will arrive in Feb/March time.

Most people seem to think it will be sooner than that, but, hey, its all guesswork.

I've already prepared 4 or 5 versions of my complaint. I will watch the Keynote, and then use the complaint most appropriate.

That price is excellent especially if no new g5's are to be unveiled at Macworld.

Makes me wonder too: If they have 160 in stock, why end the deal in 2 days which is opening day of Macworld. Perhaps they know that there are to be no new g5's and will raise the price of the dual 2ghz to $2500.

Now I'm thinking updates at the end of January.
I'm outta' here.

I'd be happy if Apple just made the whole lineup dual-processor. A little update, kinda like when they introduced the 1.8 duallies, with a nudge-nudge that there'd be something more interesting in a month.

I can imagine if there aren't any announcements of updated G5's there will be a huge collective sigh of relief from everyone who bought a G5 so far... they might get to stay at the top of the heap a little while longer.
