iPod+iTunes+auto-update -> what am i doing wrong?

i have searched the forum and either i don't have the correct search terms or....it's a new question.
i have itunes set to autoupdate the songs on my playlists that i have selected to sync to my nano; however, when i remove song(s) from the playlist, they still show up on my ipod: is this by design and i missed that in the docs or do i just have something misconfigured?

No, they shouldn't still be on the nano. However, make sure that those songs aren't in more than one playlist. For example, if you had a "recently added playlist" set to sync with your nano in addition to the playlist that you deleted the songs from, the songs might still be there even if you delete them from one of the playlists.
How many playlists do you have set to sync with the nano? As an experiment you could make it just one and then check to make sure that songs you delete from it are actually removed from the nano.

got it; thanks Icruise. I will have to go check that again; i was sure they were only in the one playlist (i have 5 or 6 set to sync).
