I just wondered if anyone has ever set fire to their own car and and claimed it was stolen and burned by some unknown car thiefs. Then putting a claim in to insurance company and get your money back for the heap of crap

It would mean admitting to a few crimes, maybe wasting police time, arson, fraud..

yeah well, Buyer beware they say , it doesnt help me as I am the buyer but I am aware that Insurance has been legally defrauding us for years. no excuse but without going into details my engine is shagged and the gimp that sold it to me probably knew it, maybe set it alight outside his house

admit your crimes here and god will not come down heavy on your ass - they dont have to be car shafting related.

Nice bit of car shafting, with documentary evidence to prove it was you who did it

I read somewhere once that someone was trying to do that, and in the process the car blew up and killed the person.

I don't think the world is any less off with that loss though.

Yep.

An acquaintance of mine did that, too.

****nut.

Luckily, he and his friends were incredibly stupid and didn't even agree upon where exactly the car was parked when it was "stolen" when individually asked by the cops.

Basically, insurance fraud deserves jailtime IMO. It's MY insurance rates that pay for others' idiocy/greed.

Around 92 I was driving my Dad's Audi around. He had just got some electrical work done. Well I went to start it and it backfired, and caught on fire. Couldn't put it out, had to call the Fire Dept. Total loss. It was the fault of the company that did the electrical work. I think he bough a Merkur Scorpio.
