If you are the owner of a 17" Powerbook with a 1.5ghz G4, could you do me a favor and run a complete Xbench and post your results here? The final score will do, if you don't want to post the whole thing. If you could also mention the speed of your hard drive and amount of RAM, that would be appreciated as well.

The reason that I am asking is because I am trying to see how the 17" PB compares to my 1.25ghz PowerMac.

Those participating please note: If you do not use the whole test and check off only a few items your score will be ridiculously high. You must do the whole test for a valid score. The XBENCH version will also make a difference. I am using 1.1.3
I would appreciate if everyone could post their disk test, I am thinking of upgrading the HD sooner or later.

Another factor may be RAM, VRAM, HD speed.
I have a 4200 RPM HD and 1 gig RAM with 64 MB VRAM 17".

Score result 122.18

CPU = 181.63

Thread = 131.9

Memory = 128.89

Quartz = 173.65

Open GL = 115.19

The 15" has the exact same specs on the last rev, so they will do too. The only difference is the screen size. I am referring to the 1.5Ghz model.

I don't understand how the 12" in this post is faster than Randmans and Deekats PB's? You guys sure that you weren't running any programs in the background while running Xbench? I don't mean to sound like a punk, but those numbers are rather low compared to the others in this thread.

Pretty close to first score. I'm running a two-month old rev c with 1.5GB of ram.

And I have a new iMac G5 for review purposes. It's 1.8Ghz, G5, 20-inch model, though it only has 256 of ram.

Interesting. I'd like to see it with more than 1GB of ram, but I only have it for a few days.
Still, with that and the PB 17s here, the super high 12 and 15 scores are making me a bit skeptical.

My Xbench results were taken on a freshly restarted 12" Rev. C PowerBook 1.33 GHz with an internal Hitachi Travelstar 7K60 7200 RPM hard drive and 1.25 GB RAM, running 10.3.5 with no other processes started and no other windows open.

I did run all tests and the results are reproducable. Dunno, what the others did.

The 7200 HD explains the high numbers. I still think you should be getting scores in the 130's Randman, but it's not like 125 is a score to complain about.

Any other ideas on getting slightly higher scores? The first time I had Safari and Mail opne but closed them I do have a few background apps going on (Menu Meters, Konfabulator [likely resource] hog, F10 and a few thing ssuch as that.
Is quitting them going to help much? I'm not that concerned as it's been able to handle everything I've thrown at it so far (video stuff for personal, photoshop, ID and quark for work-related stuff).

When I run xbench I turn off Airport and Bluetooth and I quit all other apps.
And - yes - you should get higher scores.

Ahh, AirPort. Didn't think of that one (I usuually keep bluetooth off except when it's use). Will have to try that, thanks (and yes, I'm getting my first case of XBench fever).

Though to be honest, the scores should be counted with Mail open, iTunes playing, Safari downloading (and posting here) and a little PhotoShop open as well to replicate real-life situations rather than potential, though that will also weigh more heavily on those with more ram.

If you want the highest potential score for your machine; run cron scripts, verify and repair permissions, optimize your system and restart. Upon restart reset your PRAM and run Xbench without opening any other apps, this should bump your PB scores up a point or two. It does for me.
