I need to upgrade from OS 8 to 8.6 and I don't have the disks anymore. Any idea where I could find some?

I just sold an 8.5 CD on ebay. It went for $54 plus shipping.

54$ for an OS that is even more dead than OS 9 and that runs on hardware that is classified as "vintage products" or even "unsupported"?? Cmon..................

Funny, I found a G3/8.5 CD afer I posted this. Only problem is that I need it in floppy format and I also need the 8.6 upgrade.

I didn't think it ever came on floppy.
And, yes, $54. That was with a $9.99 starting bid and no reserve. Makes ya jealous, huh? I guess that is what the market demanded. Timing might have been good too.

OS 8 (let alone OS 8.5) never, ever came on floppy -- there's absolutely no way it could have. Things were already getting ridiculous with 7.1, which required a great many floppies. And OS 8 is many times larger than 7.1, to be sure. I'm fairly sure that 7.5 didn't come on floppy, either. Either install from another disk or use a CD, since there's no way you're getting floppies.

Just for the records: OS 7.5 came on floppys (7 for the os + some driver floppys). At that time there were machines out with no CD-ROM drive....

I'll try it with the CD. I'm trying to upgrade a PowerBook 5300. It's comes with one of those funky SCSI connectors that you don't see on any other computer.
I've always had trouble with it when I tried before. Since I can get a Jazz disk to mount with better luck than I get with CD's I'm going to copy my System 8.5 disk onto the Jazz and then trying updating from there.
Next question: A friend mentioned that Apple has an FTP site with legacy system updates on it. He said I might be able to get the 8.6 update there. Anybody know what the URL of that site is?

Just go through the Apple support -> downloads
But you wont find any complete version of 8.x on there. The only free OS they released is 7.5 and below. The 8.6 update is only good if you already have 8.5

Thanks. Lot of stuff there.
Funny though, there was no update for 8.6. There was an "About this Software" text file but I didn't see an update. Maybe I jut missed it.
Lot of Newton too.
