I know this has been discussed before, but I had the hardest time entering the correct search words to search the forum. Please forgive me...

What is the best way to completely erase a CD (a non rewrittable CD)?

*I heard using sand paper was one way.

Sandpaper, then microwave ( ) then pour petrol on it and let it sit. The petrol will eat through it. Then light it.

I'd just soak it in acid, petrol, ethanol, or something similar.

there's this acid that reacts with aluminum, I can't recall the name though, that will do it for you ...

a more ... down to earth, method (what I do when I need a CD erased), I break it in half.

I hold a lighter to it and then break it in two. I can't see anyone fixing that.

With a heavy dark Sharpie marker write "Golden Hits of Vanilla Ice".

No one would ever play that CD ever again.

And you wouldn't risk hurting yourself.

Trying to get rid of those nasty JPEGs, huh?

Use a razor blade on the label side of the disc to remove the reflective coating.
Break the disc into pieces.
Drive 100 miles and discard the pieces along the way (use trash cans - please don't litter).
Cancel internet connection.
Repent.
Have a valium and relax.

Just bend it until the opposite sides of the CD meet and it should shatter into 50 pieces. From that point, if someone tried reassembling it, they'd probably need to read it with an old 1x CD-ROM. Spinning that disc in a 52x burner would likely have the disc vibrate so much it would probably shatter again.

Hehehe. How did you know? Actually pictures are one thing, but naturally there are files and documents that contain personal data which would be used for evil purposes in the wrong hands. Me and my covert, CIA operative lifestyle. Yeah that's it!

Btw, thank you for the feedback everyone.

Why not just break it in half and throw it away?

Some shredders can handle CDs. Check the labels.

Wrong! If you apply clear lacquer, wipe it gently all over the surface and let it dry in a dustfree environment, you will be able to read it out in an old 2x or 4x CD drive...

Simply bend and break it...
