Would be nice if there was a Windows application that could increase or decrease data storage space on the iPod shuffle.
I think this app would be useful on the go, since it wouldn't require installing iTunes on Windows (wouldn't require Admin rights to install)
Anyone?

Wouldn't it be nice if more Windows users just moved over to the Mac platform?

i already talked about this, just after seeing the ips introduced.
will be very handy when:
-windows machine doesnt have itunes installed, and cannot install or download it, in that precise moment
-linux boxes
the procedure should require not itunes, should even be app-less, wich means, can be executed on the very same ips witho0ut any add-ons at will.
that's was my proposal:
-how: very odd key press
like pressing << and >> simultaneously, or
holding play button for 5 seconds
-what does:
ips FULL memory to be SUSCEPTIBLE to be used for data. that means, if the data will not fit into de designated "data partition", then it will erase as many songs as needed -but not all. unplugging will "close the session".
once you're done transferring data and unplug from the computer, it's like the as if the data partition slider was moved. now it holds your new trasferred data, plus any songs left on the music partition.
you can do it as many times as you want, as oong as there's enough space in the music partition.

Wouldn't it be better if there where a Mac application that did this?

I think my app idea would be useful in a scenario like this:
You're sitting in your school's computer lab.
You have no admin rights on the school's PC computer.
You need to save some work onto your shuffle (since it doubles as a thumbdrive), but you find out that you're outta space.
You can't install iTunes since you have no admin rights on that machine.

Just leave enough space on the shuffle.

hey you guys, didnt you read my post?
an app is a bad idea, beacuse it wont be installed in the computer you want to transfer the files from.
like i said, it has to be IN the ips itself. you simply enable it by making a stupid key press, like holding the play for many seconds.
voila, it will rewrite data over songs, as many songs as needed.
cant be simpler

Read your post, and it doesn't seem possible. An app is always the simpler way.
Don't forget that the iPs doesn't have a screen.
With an app, probably you can see what songs you don't want and remove it from the iPs and manually set how data storage is needed.

The idea is probably that if you need space, you'll budget for it. If you need more space, there's iTunes. If if you need even more space, get a second shuffle or use a regular iPod.
An app that isn't iTunes that can go through and delete songs sounds like a very bad idea.

this is not a regular ipod, only a shuffle that stores a hundred songs.
when i want to copy some files to take with me -like photos from a computers friend, i dont really care about the music. as soon as i get home i can reload the ips with new songs in a pinch.
do you think that computers with its OS blocked for security reasons, a friend in a restaurant/airport/train/plane with a laptop, a linux machine with only terminal on it (geek guys)... can download an app to make the transfer?
i dont see why having the enabling option already on the ips can be so difficult to understand. Not enough space?:
prior to plugging to an USB port, press play for 6 secs. lights blink, mode enabled. plug and transfer your files. unplug. you lost 20 songs, the rest are still there. no big deal, it's a SHUFFLE -you DONT know wich songs went away, because there's NO SCREEN to check it out. But you have the photos/data on your pocket. go back home singing some shuffled songs you hear on the headphones with a smile.
PS; if you need more control -to know which songs to delete, there's already an app. it's called iTunes. To manage the library from another computer? no ipod lets you do that, because it enables PIRACY. not gonna happen.
