Hi,
I've been reading about bad pixels on PowerBooks.
Is every model (12", 15"Ti and 17") submited to this "defect"?
How often do they appear?
Can we see bad pixels even in brand-new PowerBooks, sometimes?
Thanks.
Andre.

it's not a PowerBook problem per se, it's an LCD problem.
most screens aren't affected, and when one is, the dead pixels are not very noticeable (unless you look for them).
don't sweat it.

Bad pixels are present a certain percentage of the time on all LCDs of all brands. It's amazing that they are not more common considering that there are essentially 1+ million x 2 connections for each pixel on an average display.
I have never had a bad pixel on 9 laptops (including family members). They are not as common as one would think with all the talk about them. It's just that they really bug people when they do get them, understandably of course.

can't speak for the 17"er, but both the 12" powerbooks' screens here are immaculate.

In my experience, bad pixels on Apple computers and displays are very rare, and I use a lot of them where I work. PC's on the other hand... Actually the PC laptops I've used haven't had many, IBM's especially, but I've seen far too many Dell LCD's with 1 bad pixels or 2 horribly cheap LCD's with fuzzy stripes and flickering, etc. -You get what you pay for.-

I bought my 15" last December and did not have a single dead pixel. However about a month and half ago, 5 white pixels appeared on my screen that lasted for a couple days and it went away all by itself. I was already about to call Apple regarding them.

Here's my history with 5 LCDs.
TiBook400 Perfect screen.
TiBook667 Perfect screen replaced because of bubbling hinge paint with another perfect screen.
TiBook1gz One lit blue pixel, almost invisble, replaced because of an unrelated graphics problem with a perfect screen.
4 of 5 LCD's were perfect.

15" Dell Inspiron 2650 - 1 dead pixel left center. Rubbing screen gently fixed it.
17" AlPB G4 1Ghz - 2 dead pixels (one middle right, second lower right) Rubbing LCD did sweet f**k all.
Luck of the draw I guess...
Cheers

My LCD history (I still have all the items below except one):
PowerBook G3 Pismo (sold) - no bad pixels.
15" Apple blue & white VGA studio display - no bad pixels.
Two Apple 17" studio displays - no bad pixels.
22" Apple cinema display - no bad pixels.
12" iBook 600MHz - one stuck black pixel lower left.
15" 1GHz TiBook - no bad pixels.
Two 17" Dell displays (1700 & 1702) - no bad pixels.
18" Dell display (1800) - no bad pixels.
So as you can see, it can happen with any display, but quality control is very good these days.

I've had two 12-inch PowerBooks. Neither of them have had pixel defects. My first 1-gigahertz TiBook had two green stuck pixels on a black background. My second 1-gigahertz TiBook has one pixel stuck on blue in the upper right corner. Both of my SuperDrive iMacs have had a single dead pixel each. Worst of all, there's a red stuck pixel in the middle of my 20-inch Cinema Display. My two Pismo PowerBooks were perfect, and my Lombard had a single dead pixel.
None of my four iPods have had stuck or dead pixels.

Pismo: 1 dead, 1 stuck blue
Key Lime iBook: 1 stuck green
3x iceBooks: 2 had one dead pixel, 3rd was perfect
tiBook 867: one dead pixel
LCD iMac 800: perfect
17" Studio Display: perfect
17" PowerBook: perfect
Seems that LCD quality has (obviously) improved over time, but is still not perfect. I pulled my 17" PowerBook out of the box expecting a dead pixel (so I wouldn't be devastated) but I was pleasantly surprised.
