On The Lot premieres tonight, anybody going to watch? I know there are more than a few film/video makers in this forum.

This reality show looks like it might actually be entertaining (Amateur film makers compete American Idol style). I just wonder if they are airing after the American Idol performance final because it's a lame show and needs the hold over audience, or if it is really good and want to get maximum exposure?

Anyway, I'm watching and hoping for the best.

OK, I watched and was disappointed. I can't help but believe it will get better when we start seeing some of their videos. The episode seemed so much like the reality show formula instead of something original I was hoping for. I believe they were focusing on the weak ones (like American Idol early on) and that there is much better talent to be showcased in the weeks ahead.

I was really disappointed that they didn't show any of the entry videos... there had to be some really good stuff.

So I guess nobody else saw it?

I saw it. Got a "meh" from me. First show was not interesting enough to convince me to watch the next ...

I went ahead and put it on the DVR to give it a chance. Once the field is narrowed down, it should improve. Or not. But, I don't think they should have started this far back in the pool.

How can so many filmmakers not have the slightest idea how to do a pitch? Like, whether you're in film school or just making movies yourself, isn't it a pretty basic thing not to make your pitch totally suck?

I had the impression that a lot of these "filmmakers" were more amateur than that ... like, YouTube-level filmmakers ... and the only people they've ever pitched to were themselves and their friends.

I was thinking the same. Most of the pitches we saw were weak. I'll bet there were some really good ones we didn't see. I do think the show will get better once we start seeing some film making.

I felt sorry for the people having to do their first films in groups...that's like design by committee. It will probably hurt some good film makers.

turns out a girl from my school was on it. She was a blonde girl who was talking with another girl about pitching, but she was never focused on. And she didn't make it to the next round.

It's on FOX. It is an "American Idol / Survivor" style competition for film makers. You can go to the FOX website and find out a little more about it.

I'll agree with that. I don't even have cable, and can just pick up FOX and CBS on rabbit ears. I do find THIS competition interesting, however.
