In the market for a wrist watch. No more than $2000. That's the price point.

Don't know much about them, other than automatic, mechanical watches tend to be more expensive than quartz watches.

Couple brands I really like that seem to match me: Oris and Raymond Weil.

Interested in hearing from anyone who likes watches and knows a thing, or two...

i wear a 60€ Seiko Army (kinetic) with nylon strap, I am very satisfied with it as it has a modest appearance.

A lot of the posted watches are very cool designs but not terribly practical. I guess I'd need to know when and where you'd wear this proposed new watch before we can zero in on what you're after, but I have a couple of ideas.

This is a Citizen Calibre 2100. It costs less than $500 and is my "not at work, not playing around" watch; it's a BIG chunk of metal, but it's also quite amazing.

This Tourneau Safari Land Big Date watch is kind of sporty, but really nice, and it's under $1k.

I wear this Victorinox Original Leather Accent watch at work. It costs around $150. It's comfortable and rugged.

Victorinox makes a good watch. I know they aren't expensive, but I had my Casio divers watch for about 9 years. They're $69 now.

HD3 Complicated Black Pearl Watch: Pirate-Inspired, Costs Plenty of Booty
There were only eleven made, each with the aforementioned $400,000 asking price.
Oh, sorry. A little out of your price range.

BF got a very nice Bulova watch at Sam's Club for a great price - I think it was $125 or so. Maybe not classy enough for what you're wanting, but it's definitely a really nice watch.
Sell or send me your vintage Mac things if you don't want them.

I would find it distracting too. I've noticed that when you get to the really pricey watches they are more about aesthetics rather than trying to function truly as a watch. Some of you guys have really high budgets for watches.

I can't really give any recommendations because I just buy the cheapest one I think looks good and keeps track of time accurately while being easy to read. The money I save on watches I spend elsewhere.

Assuming you want quartz for the price and convenience, Omega has many that will fit your budget. Take a look at the Aqua Terra for sure.

$2000 will buy you a decent mechanical watch. Omega makes great watches, for that budget you could, for example, pick up a 1960's classic Omega in absolute mint condition.

Where does one find such vintage watches if I may ask? I assume there's a market for this kind of thing....

There is a wonderful dusty little shop in an arcade off oxford street in London that has Rolex's from every year from the past 100 or so years all lined up in the front bay window. Anyone who wants a new watch with new money will walk straight past.

Closest thing to Ollivanders in the real world.

There's a thriving market on ebay, but that takes a lot of trust. Personally I would research local traders and dealers. I can share contacts in Toronto, but I don't have any knowledge about dealers outside the GTA.

the Seiko military I wear has a really tiny internal battery that is charged with the movement of your wrist, I noticed that after 2.5 days of not wearing, it will stop. A friend has the same watch and replaced the standard battery with a better one, his stays charged for 2 months

I know there are a lot of Americans on this forum. I came across Jomashop.com.

They are in New York? Anyway, they have amazing prices and all the best watches. Huge selection. Tons of mixed reviews. Looks like either you love them or you hate them. What do you all think of Jomashop.com?

Ha, I just said, "you all". Now that's American™.

I love my watch

Subtle enough to wear everyday, but just enough "bling" to standout.

Tutima makes some fine watches:

Tutima Instrument Watches – Official Website

I have this one, very classic with all the features I've ever wanted:

Each watch is made by hand with typical German precision; powered by normal hand motion. This one was $1800.

Been wearing a Breitling Chrono Cockpit for awhile now. A bit much for daily wear, but what the hey?
click for image (same model except mine has a light turquoise dial)

Thinking about getting a NIXON at some point.

However, I'd love to get one of these if they weren't so crazy expensive!

@PB2K, that's a really nice Seiko watch, just not sure about the nylon strap.
@dedalus, welder's looking good too. do you have one of those?

Thanks again for all the suggestions.

Macfreak7:

I tried on the Bell and Ross the other day. I don't like those, they are huge. I have narrowed down my search to Omega and Raymond Weil. I like classic styled watches. What I have determined is that most of the other watchemakers just over do it. Their watches are too sporty and flashy. I just want classic, contemporary. Those look good, to me anyway. I tried on a bunch of Tag Heuer... disliked all of them. Overkill.

I guess my comments are relevant... on an Apple forum...

It's the simplicity that gets me every time. Unfortunately, I have yet to meet a women that gets me every time™.
