Hulu's terms of use say that you can't use technologies to work around content not being available outside of the US. Fair enough. However, anonymous proxy services are legal AFAIK, although they won't work with Hulu whereas a VPN will. If I were to hypothetically sell VPN service for use with services like Hulu, would this be legal providing I don't display information on the site telling people how to access Hulu or marketing this as a reason to purchase my service?

Would I hypothetically be held liable if somebody was using the VPN to access Hulu or something else? Would a service like Giganews be liable for users that download copywrite materials through the newsgroups they host? How does one wash their hands of how technology is used while remaining the legal provider?

Consider all of this a pretty general question, I have no plans in offering this service. Just curious...

ISPs are not legally liable for their client's activities. Except in Italy, where the crazy judges live.

If you charge for the service and explicitly advertise it as a backdoor to Hulu, you could face a legal response.

Ask a lawyer.

Repeat after me: Ask a lawyer. Get legal advice. In writing.

1. Simply advertise that your service is useful for paying Netflix members who travel outside the U.S.A.
2. Don't charge money.
