At random times I'll hear faint beeping sounds emitting from the keyboard area of my new powerbook. It may be typing an email or typing in word, it doesn't matter. Every key triggers the beeping and it is about 1-2 seconds apart.

I know this was a problem with the dell 700m and it was fixed by disabling the usb ports. I don't really feel like doing that on a $$$ laptop so hopefully you guys have some ideas. This may be a common problem but I've searched around for it and can't find anything.

thanks for the help!

Funny, I was about to post the same thing. Mine seems to be the same thing sometimes, but all the time my SPACE bar makes some squeeking noise. Any ideas?

Do you happen to have a HP all-in-one attached? When my OfficeJet G85 is attached, I get a constant beep every second or so.

No all in one attached, but do have the software installed for one. I have also noticed that it is most annoying when answering posts on a bulletin board like this (this may be cause I only have time for surfing at home late and the house is quiet though). Have not yet noticed it when using Mail. Will have to check to see if it happens in Word, Excel...

The noise I get is only when the AIO is physically attached and switched on.

FWIW, I too get the same sound sometimes when typing (just had it a few seconds ago while typing here). I think it is the CPU making that sound as it is awfully similar to the high pitched noise you get when using the Highest setting for the CPU in Energy Saver, except it is sporadic. Edit: ...and the beeping caused by my AIO.

I get that sometimes. Also occasionally when scrolling. It's really annoying.

No HP anything here.

I don't have any printers or anything attached, just a network cable. I've noticed the beeping in Dreamweaver since shortly after I installed it. I think I've had the beeping noise for 10.4.2, 4.3, and I haven't used DW in 4.4 yet. I'll try it out tonight if I remember and post results to this thread.

I thought i was crazy too! it started doing it after a while. I hit sound volume keys, adjusted the keyrate, and played with the key lighting and it went away.

I think maybe it's something leaking onto the board, it appears to go away after you "break-in" the keyboard.

Try muting the computer, and playing with the backlighting
